Batman, Harley Quinn, & More Are Officially Connected by 1 Cosmic Force, Altering the DCU Forever

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Poison Ivy #22!

Summary Every DC character is connected to the cosmic force known as the Green.

The Green gives all heroes and villains a power they never knew they had.

DC characters now have something like a "spider-sense" that alerts them to danger.

Heroes, antiheroes and villains like Batman, Harley Quinn and more have been revealed to be officially connected to one cosmic force. DC's diversity in heroes and villains has helped the publisher stand out for generations. However, a shocking new reveal has shown that, despite their differences, every DC character is connected to each other through the Green.

In Poison Ivy #22 by G. Willow Wilson and Haining, Ivy is caught up in a massive fight with Dr. Jason Woodrue to prevent a fungal zombie apocalypse. During their duel, she begins to ponder if the Green, best known as a force connected to all species of plant life, is actually sentient and capable of hearing them. While she acknowledges she doesn't really know, she does mention that the bacteria, viruses, and fungi that encounter other organisms leave "traces of itself" and connect everyone to each other.

This new aspect of the Green is artfully shown by a beautifully connected web of roots that shows Batman and Harley sensing something is wrong at the same time. The characters of the DCU have traces of the Green inside them, and because of this, they're unified by this elemental force without even realizing it.

The Entire DC Universe Is Connected to the Green

No One is Truly "Shut Out" from this Cosmic Force

Close

What's fascinating about this massive reveal is what it means going forward for DC's heroes. By stating that every character has a tie to the Green in some way brings them closer than fans have ever known. They may share a universe, but heroes like Batman and Superman have always had clear distinctions to make their own stories feel unique. These differences have always made their interactions interesting, because fans can see two people with opposing viewpoints maintaining a friendly rivalry. Now, the two have something in common, and they will likely never realize it.

Their connection to the Green is described as incredibly minimal, which makes sense. Only characters with plant-based powers like Poison Ivy and Swamp Thing are capable of fully communicating with the force due to their stronger ties with it. This means that other heroes and villains will never be able to connect to the Green in the same way they can. However, they're not shut out from it entirely. In fact, Poison Ivy's final line before she sacrifices herself and transforms into an official hero is "We are the Green," proving that even people who know nothing about this powerful force are still connected to it in some way.

The Green Gives Every Hero and Villain a Power They Never Knew About

Everyone in the DC Universe Has a "Spider-Sense"

DC's characters also have a secret type of "spider-sense" that allows them to know when danger is nearby.

The most interesting thing about the Green's reach into every DC character is how Ivy describes her proof. She mentions that the feelings people get whenever they feel something bad is happening is the Green trying to speak to them. This "power" is shown in action when both Harley Quinn and Batman react to Ivy's battle at the same time without being anywhere near her. They know something's up because the Green comes to them as a "little voice inside," warning them of trouble.

In a way, this means that, outside of being connected to one another, DC's characters also have a secret type of "spider-sense" that allows them to know when danger is nearby. It's not nearly as strong as Spider-Man's ability, since it's described as something subtle, but it's still a powerful tool that explains how heroes without superhearing may know they need to reconvene with the Justice League. Characters like Batman and Harley Quinn all share this connection to DC's powerful cosmic force, and it's a change that will undeniably change the DCU forever.
