The Rookie showrunner Alexi Hawley has teased how Jason's escape from prison in the season 6 finale is going to raise problems for Nolan and Bailey when season 7 arrives. The Rookie season 6 finale saw Monica release Oscar from prison, later bringing Bailey's ex-husband Jason into her plans in the process. While she frees him from prison, his status in the series remains unknown, but it sets the stage for his return in the future.

Speaking with TV Insider, Hawley explained how Jason's prison escape at the end of The Rookie season 6 is going to be a problem for Nolan and Bailey going into season 7. The showrunner revealed Jason was the biggest threat at the moment, with his intentions being very direct and threatening to major characters. Check out what Hawley had to say below:

The stakes are there. Obviously there’s a danger lurking. On the completely practical side, Jenna’s about to have a baby in real life, so we do have to navigate that at the beginning of the season. So I think we’ll have to slow roll slightly and that, but yeah, look, especially in the adoption story, they do live dangerous lives. She’s going to have an ex-husband slash stalker out there. How does that impact them on a personal level will be interesting to explore. Without spoiling too much, because I don’t know everything at this point, I think Jason’s probably the most immediate problem. I can’t necessarily comment on Oscar and Monica yet, but I think obviously Jason is the one with the most specific, the most harmful intent towards anybody on our show at the moment.
