Play These 9 Games For Free This Weekend On Xbox

Summary Xbox Game Pass offers users a chance to play 9 Warhammer games for free this weekend.

Core and Ultimate subscribers get discounts on listed games during Free Play Days weekend.

Best choices include Mechanicus for a tactical RPG, Vermintide 2 for action, and Rogue Trader for lore.

Xbox Game Pass is about to become significantly more grimdark as a wealth of Warhammer games will be free to play for the weekend. Following on from the recent Warhammer Skulls event which saw the announcement of several new video games set within the sprawling sci-fi universe, Microsoft is allowing interested users to taste the glory of the Imperium or the evil villainy of the Xenos races. Most of the games included in this week's Free Play Days will take a significant amount of time to complete, so it's worth picking and choosing some favorites.

Per the official Xbox blog, nine Warhammer games pulled from every branch of the franchise, including 40,000, Age of Sigmar, and Blood Bowl, will be free to play from May 23 to May 26. The games included on the list:

Necromunda Underhive Wars

Warhammer Vermintide 2

Warhammer 40,000 Mechanicus

Blood Bowl 3

Warhammer 40,000 Inquisitor – Martyr Ultimate Edition

Warhammer Chaosbane Xbox One

Talisman Digital Edition

Warhammer 40,000 Rogue Trader

Warhammer Age of Sigmar Realms of Ruin

It's worth noting that Xbox Game Pass Core and Ultimate subscribers will also be able to grab the listed games at a significant discount during the Free Play Days weekend, meaning if one stands out, it's less painful on the wallet. The wide range of titles can be daunting for those uninitiated with the universe, but there's something for everyone in the mix.

Which Warhammer Game Is Worth Your Time?

A Range Of Experiences In Terms Of Setting And Quality

It's worth noting that while the Warhammer franchise is a pop culture behemoth, the quality of its video games does vary wildly. Arguably the best option in the Free Play Days weekend is Mechanicus, a tactical RPG with a deep customization system and excellent writing that's managed to win over both fans and critics alike. Alternatively, Baldur's Gate 3 fans looking for a less cinematic but nonetheless deep role-playing experience should check out Rogue Trader, an isometric CRPG that's dense with lore and world-building.

Those wanting a more action-packed experience may want to dip into Vermintide 2, a co-op melee game where players take on the role of champions looking to push back the sinister forces of the rat-like Skaven. Its visceral, bloody combat is always satisfying and its progression makes for hours of replayability. Alternatively, there's the slower-paced Inquisitor game that aims to replicate the loot gathering of Diablo in a slower, more methodical shell.

Xbox Game Pass' latest Free Play Days makes for an excellent starting point for those players intrigued by the Warhammer franchise. It's a dense, lore-filled universe that's intricate in its design, so being able to dip one's toes in for no charge is certainly a decent way to test the waters. Best to start early though, Rogue Trader alone could take at least 50 hours to see everything on offer.
