Sonic Frontiers Cast Would "Absolutely" Return For Sonic Frontiers 2
Summary The voice actors behind Sonic Frontiers are excited about the possibility of a sequel and envision Sage becoming more human.
A sequel could explore Sage's storyline further, pairing her with existing characters like Amy or Tails on new adventures.
While rumors of a sequel exist, no official announcement has been made by SEGA, but the cast is eager to continue if given the chance.
In a recent interview at MCM London Comic Con that Screen Rant attended, the cast behind Sonic Frontiers revealed they'd be enthusiastically on board with acting in another entry. The game marked many milestones for the long-running franchise, introducing both its first open world and the new character Sage, an artificial intelligence created by Dr. Eggman. Since its release in 2022, there has been DLC for the title, but no official sequel has been formally announced just yet.
This week, the voice actors behind Sonic, Shadow, Tails, and Sage gathered for a panel during MCM London Comic Con to discuss their work on the series. When asked if they'd be interested in pursuing a sequel, and what they'd like to see from another game in terms of their characters, Roger Craig Smith and Ryan Bartley - who play Sonic and Sage respectively - were wholeheartedly interested in the idea, and theorized where things could go next for Sage. Check out the full quote below:
Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely. "Would you want to work again?" Yes. [Laughs] Ryan Bartley: I think it would be cool to see Sage become even more human. I'm sure she has lots of the world to explore, and lots of friends of Sonic that she could meet that would be really amazing, and seeing her develop would be really, really beautiful. I would love that.

What A Sonic Frontiers Sequel Could Look Like
Sage Isn't The Only Character To Be Explored
Close
As the newest character in the series, it would make sense for a second Sonic Frontiers to continue exploring Sage's storyline as Bartley mentioned, and the angle of furthering her humanity is undoubtedly an interesting one. However, the ending of Sonic Frontiers set up potential narratives for almost every major character by virtue of each one splitting off from the pack to pursue their own goals. A sequel could easily follow a single character like Knuckles or Amy in a new adventure, rather than focusing on the entire group as a whole.
This idea could even tie into a further exploration of Sage's more human side, pairing her with an existing character on a continuing journey. An empathetic character like Amy would be perfect for helping unearth more of Sage's emotions, or someone like Tails for a more lighthearted, airborne-centric adventure. A sequel could even go one step further and introduce more new additions to the cast - perhaps another Eggman-crafted AI or some other kind of evil counterpart for Sage.
Is A Sequel In The Cards For Sonic Frontiers?
Rumors Abound, But They Can't Be Substantiated
Unfortunately, the content of a sequel is currently entirely speculation, as the development of another game has yet to be formally announced by SEGA. Both public and critical reception for Sonic Frontiers was somewhat mixed, with some praising it as a step forward while others criticized its bugs and other inconsistencies, so it's difficult to say if another entry is guaranteed. However, this panel has proven that the cast will be enthusiastically on board if a Sonic Frontiers sequel ever comes to pass, and would bring with it great insight into the further development of their characters.
Screen Rant will be at MCM London Comic Con all weekend long, so stay tuned for more coverage!
