Walton Goggins Gives Definitive Response To Rumored Justified Feud With Timothy Olyphant

Summary Walton Goggins acknowledges that there were disagreements between him and Timothy Olyphant toward the end of Justified, but denies that there was a feud.

Both Goggins and Olyphant have highlighted in separate comments that their disagreements stemmed from a place of love about the show and their characters.

Goggins and Olyphant make clear that they still love and respect one another and wouldn't hesitate to work together again.

Justified star Walton Goggins shuts down rumors regarding his feud with costar Timothy Olyphant. First airing in 2010, the hit FX Network crime drama stars Olyphant as U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens, following him as he returns to his home county and attempts to shut down various criminal enterprises. The show, which is based on source material from author Elmore Leonard, features Goggins starring as Boyd Crowder, an acquaintance from Raylan's youth. Recently, reports have emerged that there was some friction on set between the two stars toward the end, though Olyphant has downplayed these rumors.

In a recent interview with LA Times, Goggins similarly denies that any such feud existed between him and Olyphant while filming Justified. According to the actor, there were disagreements toward the end of the show's run, but these, for him, were to be expected with such a long-running creative endeavor. Check out Goggins' full comment below in which he makes his love for Olyphant very clear:

“It’s so crazy. There is no feud. The ending of that show was hard emotionally, and people had different ways of dealing with it. It was a difficult goodbye and there were moments when we didn’t see eye to eye. But I would expect that from any long experience you care about. How can you go through an experience like that and not have a disagreement? "The truth is … Tim is a dear friend of mine, and someone I love like a brother. I respect him as an artist and an actor, probably more than anyone. He’s still untapped at what he has to offer. I love the man. And I know he loves me.”

What Timothy Olyphant Has Said About The Rumored Walton Goggins Feud On Justified

There's No Bad Blood Between The Two Actors

Olyphant previously opened up a little more about the disagreements between him and Goggins on Justified during an interview with Vanity Fair. The actor reveals that there was some friction regarding how the series finale would play out. According to Olyphant, "Walt would say his character would never do that" to certain ideas presented by the writers. The actor admits in the same interview that they would "get really frustrated with each other."

Ultimately, though, Olyphant's comments in the article make clear that any disagreements he had with Goggins stemmed from a place of passion about their characters and about the show. The Justified cast spent years together as part of a project they all believed in and, as Olyphant puts it: "people have a hard time saying goodbye." Like Goggins, Olyphant assures that he still very much admires his costar and enjoyed working with him. This is made extra clear by the fact that Goggins reprised his role as Boyd for the Justified: City Primeval finale.

Justified: City Primeval is currently available to stream on Hulu.

The ending of the recent revival certainly paves the way for a larger comeback from Boyd, but Justified: City Primeval season 2 hasn't yet been confirmed. The show was generally well-reviewed, but it will be viewership that determines whether it returns. If Justified does come back, however, it certainly looks like Olyphant and Goggins would celebrate the opportunity to work together again and that this whole "feud" has been blown out of proportion.
