Summary Stargate SG-1 cast continues to charm fans post-series with appearances and new projects after a successful 9-year run.

It's been 27 years since Stargate SG-1 began, and the talented cast has continued entertaining audiences in the years since the series concluded. The hit sci-fi TV show started with its first season in 1997 and featured stars Richard Dean Anderson, Michael Shanks, Amanda Tapping, and Christopher Judge as the titular team SG-1. This cast continued playing their respective characters for the following years until Stargate SG-1 ended with season 10 in 2006 (though some of the stars took breaks here and there). Of course, this wasn't the end of their careers.
2024 marks 18 years since Stargate SG-1 season 10 came to a close, but the age of streaming means that more audiences than ever have found and fallen in love with the show. Stargate checks all the boxes for a great sci-fi, full of campy action, heroic sacrifices, leagues of aliens (both good and evil), and a team of lovable characters. Unfortunately, the stories surrounding Jack O'Neill, Daniel Jackson, Samantha Carter, Teal'c, and the rest have come to a close, but the actors who played them have continued to charm us all these years later.

Richard Dean Anderson Is Retired But Frequently Appears At Conventions
Richard Dean Anderson Played Jack O'Neill In Stargate SG-1

Colonel Jack O'Neill was the heart and soul of Stargate SG-1, and he was portrayed perfectly by star Richard Dean Anderson. There was far more to this character than meets the eye and over the seasons of Stargate SG-1, the profoundly compassionate and secretly intelligent man began to shine through Jack's nonchalant exterior. This required a highly nuanced performance from Anderson.
It's no surprise that Anderson was up for the job. The actor dove into stardom playing Angus MacGyver in the 1985 hit TV show MacGyver, so he was already a household name by the time Stargate came into being. Anderson continued to play Jack O'Neill regularly until season 8 when he left the show to focus on being a father. In the years since Stargate SG-1 ended, Anderson appeared in a handful of TV shows, playing David Smith in a few episodes of Fairly Legal in 2011 and portraying himself in 2013's Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23.
Richard Dean Anderson left his role after Stargate SG-1 season 8, though he returned to appear in some of the spinoffs.
Anderson has since retired from acting, though he makes frequent appearances at conventions around the world. In 2024, the actor attended GalaxyCon Richmond, Comic Con France, and Hertogenbosch Comic Con, where he was reunited with Stargate SG-1 costar Amanda Tapping. Anderson's official website is frequently updated with his goings-on, allowing fans to keep up with the actor even after his retirement.
Michael Shanks Still Makes Occasional TV Appearances
Michael Shanks Played Daniel Jackson In Stargate SG-1
Close
Daniel Jackson is another easy favorite of Stargate SG-1. Highly clever and a little awkward, he was meant to be the complete opposite of charismatic and above-it-all Jack O'Neill, but the friendship that developed between the pair served as the foundation of the sci-fi series. Though Daniel was originally played by James Spader in the 1994 Stargate movie, Michael Shanks effortlessly picked up the role for Stargate SG-1, so it's hard to imagine anyone ever doing a better job.
Prior to Stargate SG-1, Shanks appeared in an episode of Highlander: The Series (1993) and played minor characters in two television movies, A Family Divided (1995) and The Call of the Wild: Dog Of The Yukon (1997). Stargate SG-1 was his first significant role, but it wasn't his last. Shanks appeared in TV series like Burn Notice, Smallville, and Supernatural before Stargate SG-1 concluded, and the 2010s came with even more appearances and a few director credits for episodes of Saving Hope.
In 2020, Shanks took on a recurring role in the TV show Altered Carbon and appeared in an episode of Project Blue Book. Then, in 2022, the Stargate SG-1 actor played a character named Paul in an episode of The Good Doctor. This was Shanks' last on-screen appearance for a few years, but he has appeared at a couple of conventions, giving fans the opportunity to see him in person even if they can't catch him on the screen.
Amanda Tapping Has Turned To Directing
Amanda Tapping Played Samantha Carter In Stargate SG-1
Close
Samantha Carter hadn't been a character in the 1994 Stargate movie but was a valuable addition and one of the smartest characters of Stargate SG-1. She was every bit as intelligent as Daniel Jackson, but unlike her teammate, she had a military background that gave her a significant edge. Sam had the subtle ability to understand her teammates to their core, and actor Amanda Tapping could convey this without a word. This is a skill the star has brought to her many other roles as well.
Tapping has been dubbed the "Grand Empress of Sci-fi," and this reputation began before she appeared in Stargate SG-1. She appeared in an episode of The X-Files in 1996 and had the recurring role of Miss Yansouni in the 1996 TV series Flash Forward. While working on Stargate SG-1, Tapping played similar roles in series like Millennium (1999), The Void (2001), and Sanctuary (2007).
Tapping is credited with having directed episodes of The Flash, Batwoman, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Wild Cards, and Dead Boy Detectives.
Tapping's TV appearances continued past Stargate SG-1's conclusion, with recurring roles in Supernatural and Travelers. However, in the 2020s, she has focused predominantly on directing. Tapping is credited with having directed episodes of The Flash, Batwoman, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Wild Cards, and Dead Boy Detectives. Tapping has done well being the person in charge on set, which makes sense considering her commanding presence as Samantha Carter on Stargate SG-1.
Christopher Judge Has Done A Lot Of Voice Work In Recent Years
Christopher Judge Played Teal'c In Stargate SG-1
Close
Teal'c is another character who wasn't in the 1994 Stargate movie but brought a lot of value to Stargate SG-1. As the only alien on team SG-1, Teal'c was different from his teammates, and the cultural norms of Earth often went over his head. This meant ammunition for some of the running jokes in Stargate SG-1, especially when paired with actor Christopher Judge's deadpan performance (and the subtle raise of his single eyebrow).
Stargate SG-1 was among the early projects in Judge's career. Prior to 1997's pilot, the actor had appeared in Anderson's MacGyver (1990) and had a reoccurring role in the 1994 series Sirens. While working on Stargate SG-1, the actor appeared in a variety of other TV shows, like First Wave, Andromeda, and NCIS: Lost Angeles. However, the years that followed have been primarily dedicated to voice work.
Judge's deep voice can be heard in episodes of The Mentalist, Wacky Races, Final Space, and The Guardians of Justice. He has also worked on video games, where he was the voice of Kratos in God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarok (2022) and T'Challa the Black Panther in Marvel's Avengers (2021). Given the iconic rumble of Teal'c's voice, it's no surprise that Judge's career has turned in this direction.
Teryl Rothery Is Still Acting In Movies & TV
Teryl Rothery Played Janet Fraiser In Stargate SG-1
Close
Dr. Janet Fraiser might not have been a member of SG-1, but she was still a highly valuable character throughout the flagship Stargate series. The clever doctor was always ready to treat the various teams as they returned from other planets with bizarre injuries, and the character had several of her own side stories as well. Unfortunately, Dr. Fraiser was killed off Stargate SG-1 in one of the saddest episodes of the series, and actor Teryl Rothery was deeply missed for the remaining seasons.
After Dr. Fraiser's death in Stargate SG-1 season 7, Rothery took on several reoccurring roles in series like The Guard, Hellcats, and Cedar Cover.
Like many of her Stargate SG-1 costars, Rothery got her start in other sci-fi series prior to the 1997 pilot. She appeared in an episode of The X-Files in 1994 and The Outer Limits in 1996 and 1997. After Dr. Fraiser's death in Stargate SG-1 season 7, Rothery took on several reoccurring roles in series like The Guard, Hellcats, and Cedar Cover. More recently, the actor appeared in The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020), When Calls the Heart (2021) and played Dawn Kannerman throughout season 2 of Upload (2022).
Rothery has also become a frequent guest in Hallmark movies over the years. Since 2010, she has appeared in 13 Hallmark movies, including The Wishing Tree (2012), All for Love (2017), Valentine in the Vineyard (2019), Sweet Carolina (2021), and Francesca Quinn, PI (2022). So, while we can no longer see Dr. Janet Fraiser on the screen, audiences may recognize Rothery in a Hallmark or Lifetime holiday special or two.
Corin Nemec Is Acting & Writing
Corin Nemec Played Jonas Quinn In Stargate SG-1
Close
Jonas Quinn was a late addition to SG-1, joining the series in Stargate SG-1 season 6 after Daniel Jackson's temporary death in season 5. The character was meant to be a lot like Daniel—intelligent with limited military skills. Given the disappointment of Daniel's death, Quinn was a little hard to accept, but after a while, this character became difficult not to love. After Daniel returned in Stargate SG-1 season 7, Quinn became a reoccurring role since his character returned to Kelowna.
Quinn was played by Corin Nemec in Stargate SG-1, who got his big break in 1989 when he starred in the TV show I Know My First Name Is Steven. From there, he gained prominence for TV shows like Parker Lewis Can't Lose (1990) and the TV film Brother's Keeper (2002) before joining the Stargate franchise in 2002. After leaving his regular role in 2004, Nemec appeared in episodes of Three Moons Over Milford, NCIS, and Supernatural.
Nemec's career didn't end there, and since Stargate SG-1 concluded, he has appeared in and written several more TV shows and television films. The 2010s brought Shooter (2017), Rottentail (2018), and All Roads to Pearla (2019). More recently, in the 2020s, Nemec has taken part in projects like Hollywould (2022), Haunted: 333 (2022), Half Dead Fred (2022), and Deam Man's Hand (2023). In all, though Stargate SG-1 ended over a decade ago, there are many ways that fans can see the stars again on screen.
