Genshin Impact 4.6 Unexpectedly Shines With Natlan Looming: Our Comprehensive Review
Summary Story content excels in Genshin Impact 4.6, with new World Quests delving into ancient history.
Arlecchino's Character Quest is emotionally impactful and offers a challenging boss fight.
Event activities in 4.6 are lackluster, but the update overall is an improvement with a new playable character.
The release of Genshin Impact 4.6 and its contents is positive news for players, even as the game developed by HoYoverse shifts to a lower gear in preparation for the release of Natlan later this year. Version 4.6 does not add main story content, as the campaign quests set in the region of Fontaine have come to an end with Version 4.2. Nevertheless, as a live-service title, the RPG continues to gain playable content, either in the form of smaller quests or even character releases.
The current update has added a new playable character who was highly anticipated by the community. The release of Arlecchino in Genshin Impact was positive, and it sets the bar for some future releases. In addition to that, Version 4.6 also added a whole new explorable area that is accessible in the southern reaches of Fontaine, along with an important World Quest, as well as two separate Character Quests that give more depth to the featured heroes. Of course, the update also boasted a roster of limited-time events.

Arlecchino's Character Quest is emotional and its boss fight is epic

New Character Missions Make Up For Lack Of Main Campaign Quests

Even with the lack of main campaign quests, the story content added with Version 4.6 is exciting and does not disappoint in the slightest. The most notable addition is the set of World Quests that start on the Island of Petrichor and that expand deeper into the underwater ruins of Remuria. This chain of missions allows players to understand where Fontaine itself came from and the secrets that have been laying there – Teyvat is at its best when its ancient history is explored, and this is exactly what happens in the new World Quest of Genshin Impact 4.7.
“Overall, the current patch is a huge improvement from the content presented in the previous update.”
The characters presented during these quests have less screen time when compared to other heroes, but they develop quickly, and the conclusion of Remuria’s story is an epic and unforgettable feat with a deep emotional draw that easily rivals that of conclusive Archon Quests – even without the voice acting. While this is the best piece of story content, players also received more development with the introduction of Arlecchino and Cyno’s individual Character Quests in Genshin Impact.

Arlecchino’s Character Quest is a masterpiece, with just the right amount of digging into past lore and a memorable conclusion that ends with a great boss fight. The story is deeply emotional and is one of the better ones among Character Quests. The only true downside to it is that part of its contents was spoiled by HoYoverse itself, which posted a video on the official Genshin Impact channel on YouTube detailing Arlecchino’s background before it could be played through in the game – the video can be seen above.
Cyno’s Character Quest, on the other hand, is on the weaker end of the narrative spectrum. The initial portion of the mission seems like nonsense and, in some ways, is quite tiresome. The story truly picks up once players meet Sethos, brilliantly voiced by Zeno Robinson. The character is intriguing and the story he and Cyno are involved in helps give more depth to Sumeru as a region. The Quest is appreciated as it helps better understand some of the secret factions of Genshin Impact’s Nation of Justice and its future, but its pacing could have been optimized.
Cyno’s Character Quest also leaves less of an impression because, despite an epic cinematic brawl, there are very few instances of combat.

New Genshin Impact 4.6 Character Lives Up To The Expectation
Arlecchino Teases The Next Big Gameplay Mechanic
Like Version 4.5 before it, Version 4.6 only introduced one new playable character: Arlecchino. The Fatui Harbinger also known as the Knave has long been awaited, even before the arrival of Fontaine in Version 4.0, since her character model had leaked prior to that. The good news is that Arlecchino lives up to the hype. The 5-star character is one of the best Pyro DPS units in the game if properly built. It can be tricky to achieve an ideal build with the complicated status of Artifacts in Genshin Impact, but she can unload an immense amount of damage.
Arlecchino uses the Bond of Life mechanic, which is a debuff that prevents her from healing, but in turn offers more damage output. This type of punitive mechanic, like HP-loss, has proved itself to be extremely powerful, and Arlecchino may be kicking off the new meta in style, as there are rumors of Clorinde and Sigewinne also using Bond of Life in Version 4.7. While Arlecchino is not excessively strong compared to other top-tier DPS, such as the broken Neuvillette in Genshin Impact, she is one extra option for players to use, and a fantastic one at that.
Events Are A Bit Lackluster In Genshin Impact 4.7
Activities Do Still Provide Worthwhile Rewards
While the story content and the new playable character are remarkable additions to the game, the limited-time events are something of a disappointment. The main flagship event called the Iridescent Arataki Rockin’ for Life Tour is fun due to the characters that star in the adventure and the overall musicality, but the activities are rather dull. The traditional music-playing mini-game called the Xtreme Carnival Ensemble allows players to play their favorite theme songs from Genshin Impact, but there are no major modifications from previous iterations.
The Trillion Trinket Trawl is a fairly strange activity to release in the middle of a musical event, though they are quick to complete and that alone is enough to balance out how dull it can seem: in it, players need to defeat enemies, collect resources, and take photos. The third mini-game, A Meeting of Melodies, is conceptually in the right place, but there is a simplicity to its execution that is somewhat bothersome. The activity consists of filling in missing musical notes and completing a song in Genshin Impact.
The best part of the event is its conclusion, flagged by a remarkable musical presentation. During the final moments, there is also a hint at an upcoming war in Teyvat, which is chilling since the information comes from a secretive conversation between Ei and Yae Miko. Other than the flagship event, Version 4.6 also brought an updated iteration of the Windtrace mini-game, and the new gameplay mechanics like the Signaling Devices add a great strategic layer to the activity in Genshin Impact.
Luckily, the activities are easy to accomplish and they provide a satisfactory amount of Primogems and other in-game rewards.
Overall, the current patch is a huge improvement from the content presented in the previous update, Version 4.5. The combination of strong story quests and a beautifully designed underwater area to explore along with a powerful new playable character make up for the unremarkable events in the update. The update is surprisingly good considering it is a late-year patch that is filling in some content gaps before the massive update that will see the release of Natlan in Genshin Impact later this year.
