Masamune Shirow's hit manga series Ghost in the Shell has spawned quite a successful franchise which is about to grow even larger with a new anime series. The classic cyberpunk series has been reimagined in multiple ways over the decades, and while fans were already thrilled for the latest remaster of Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, the series has yet again surprised fans with news of a brand new anime series set to hit television screens in 2026.

Bandai Namco has announced that Ghost in the Shell will be receiving a television anime series produced by Science SARU. The anime is set to air in 22026 with no further specifics provided about the air date. The series is tentatively titled The Ghost in the Shell and has also received a promotional video along with the announcement.

Though the series will be animated by Science SARU, the committee in charge also includes Bandai Namco, Kodansha, and Production I.G. who have produced previous animated installments of the franchise.

Ghost in the Shell Gets a New Anime Produced by Science SARU

While it still unclear what the new anime will entail, snippets of the manga in the promotional video suggest it could be a reboot. Fortunately, Science SARU has had quite a good track record with wildly successful titles like Dandadan, Scott Pilgrim Takes off, and Devilman Crybaby which promise that the franchise is in good hands. That said, it is unclear whether Toho Animation's recent acquisition of Science SARU could impact the production of The Ghost in the Shell.
