Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Man Noir Comes To Life Ahead Of New Live-Action Series In Dark Marvel Art

Summary Nicolas Cage has been confirmed to be returning to the role of Spider-Man Noir in Sony's upcoming live-action Noir series.

Noir will showcase a darker and more hardened version of Spider-Man than Peter Parker's original version of the wall-crawler.

Spider-Man Noir's origin story in Marvel Comics is much darker than Peter Parker's Spider-Man's, making him an exciting addition to Sony's Spider-Man Universe.

New fan art brings Nicolas Cage's upcoming Noir series to life. Nicolas Cage debuted as the voice of Spider-Man Noir in 2018's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, introduced as one of the Spider-Man variants pulled into Miles Morales' world after the tragedy at Alchemax. Spider-Man Noir returned at the end of the 2023 sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, setting him up for a bigger role in the franchise's animated future. Before that, however, Nicolas Cage has been confirmed to be reprising the role in a new live-action series, Noir, which will take place outside the MCU in Sony's Spider-Man Universe.

Not much is known about Sony's Noir series past Nicolas Cage's casting in the titular role. Despite this, excitement for the live-action series is high, particularly since this will mark the first time a live-action Spider-Man will have been seen in Sony's Spider-Man Universe. The series is expected to put a dark spin on Spider-Man's usual lighthearted adventures, which has been depicted in new fan art shared by MJD Artworks following the series' confirmation.

This art imagines Nicolas Cage's Spider-Man Noir atop a pile of rubble with a grappling hook, leaning on the suspected dark themes of the upcoming series.

How Spider-Man Noir Will Be Different From Peter Parker’s Spider-Man

Close

Despite being a Spider-Man variant from Marvel Comics, Spider-Man Noir is wildly different from the original Peter Parker, a.k.a. Spider-Man. Most notably, Spider-Man Noir comes from an alternate universe's New York City during the Great Depression. Working for photojournalist Ben Urich, the young Peter Parker breaks into a warehouse of stolen antiques and comes across a spider idol. The idol breaks open, releasing a horde of spiders, one of which bites Parker and knocks him unconscious. In his dream, Parker meets a spider god who promises him great power, and when he wakes, he realizes this has come to fruition.

As Spider-Man Noir, Peter Parker takes on an alternate version of Norman Osborn, kills the Vulture, battles Kraven the Hunter, Doctor Octopus, Sandman, and Crime Master before embarking on a journey through the Spider-Verse. Spider-Man Noir is a much more hardened and seasoned Spider-Man than the original Peter Parker, so this will contribute to a much darker narrative in Sony's Noir series than audiences may be used to. Noir will explore the aging Peter Parker in his alternate world as he struggles to come to terms with his past as the only superhero in the city.

This is a far cry from the lighthearted adventures of Peter Parker's Spider-Man in previous live-action projects. Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland's Spider-Men have all had their heavy and emotional moments, but, for the most part, their stories have been jovial, perfectly expressing the character's teenage personality. This will be wildly different in Noir, as Nicolas Cage will deliver a tougher, less approachable, and more stern version of the legendary wall-crawler. While Sony hasn't introduced its own version of Peter Parker's Spider-Man yet, Spider-Man Noir will be an excellent addition to its growing franchise.

Spider-Man Noir Spider-Man Noir is an animated television series set in a dark and gritty universe. The show follows the story of Peter Parker, a cynical and violent Spider-Man who lives in a black-and-white world. This darker take on the Spider-Man character is set in the 1930s and features a film noir-inspired aesthetic. Cast Nicolas Cage Streaming Service(s) Prime Video , MGM+ Franchise(s) Spider-Man
