The Cast Of Blippi: A Character Guide (& Why The Actor Changed)

The Cast Of Blippi: A Character Guide (& Why The Actor Changed)

Summary Blippi features multiple actors portraying the same character for engaging content with a mix of familiar faces to connect with.

Blippi's educational focus mirrors '90s preschool shows, adapting to the age of YouTube with a growing franchise and diverse spin-offs.

The incorporation of celebrity cameos and dynamic characters like Meekah and Park Ranger Orson adds an enriching twist to every episode.

The cast of Blippi is a mix of multiple actors playing the same character, children for young viewers to connect with, and celebrity cameos that add a fun and unique twist to episodes. Educational shows in the '90s aimed at preschoolers were generally found on Nick Jr., the Disney Channel, PBS, etc. Now, in the age of streaming and tablets, some of the best educational shows for toddlers and children can be found on YouTube. Blippi, for instance, posted its first episode on the website in February 2014 and has since become a large franchise.

With a live musical called Blippi The Musical, multiple dubs in other languages, and a spin-off series for Amazon Kids+ called Blippi's Treehouse, this educational series starring the titular creator, Stevin John, is everywhere. "Blippi" is an excitable, bespectacled man in his mid-twenties, dressed in bright orange suspenders and a hat who goes on adventures to museums, national parks, and other educational locations to teach the audience about what that episode's subject is. While it's Blippi who is the focus of most episodes, he's occasionally joined by helpers to teach some lessons of their own.

Stevin John As Blippi

Close

Active Since: 2017

Actor: Stevin John is the creator of Blippi and the original actor for the character. John came up with the idea in 2013 (via Mashable) while spending time with his 2-year-old nephew who loved YouTube. John combined his background in video editing and production with a savviness for SEO strategies, which has allowed him to build out a children's educational franchise worth millions. Not a professional actor, John has only ever appeared as Blippi in the main show and spinoffs.

Notable Movies & TV Shows:

Title Role Blippi (2014-2024) Blippi Blippi's Treehouse (2021) Blippi Wonders (2021-2022) Juca (2023)

Character: Blippi is the host of Blippi and its many spinoffs. With a blue shirt, orange accessories, and boundless energy, Blippi can match the excitement of even the most over-active toddler. He's something of a mix of Steve from Blue's Clues as well as other '90s Nick Jr. show hosts and main characters, with a dash of Miss Frizzle from The Magic Schoolbus thrown in.

Clayton Grimm As Blippi

Active Since: 2018

Actor: Clayton Grimm is the other actor to play Blippi in the show. Grimm began his fledgling career in shorts in 2018 before starring in the TV movie The Patch as Cam. He also played Blippi in Blippi The Musical before appearing on the TV series in the same role.

Notable Movies & TV Shows:

Why The Blippi Actor Changed: It may seem strange that Stevin John is not the only one playing Blippi considering he invented the character and the show. But it's not as if Clayton Grimm replaced him. Instead, Blippi and their distributor Moonbug Entertainment decided to add another actor so that there would be more Blippi than ever. Moonbug told Parents,

"The role of Blippi originated with Stevin John and has grown to include Clayton Grimm as well as a variety of talented actors who take part in the live show. Being Blippi is a state of mind and as the franchise continues to grow so too will the actors that play him. Blippi's mission is to build confidence in preschoolers by inspiring curiosity and learning through play and we look to find the best partners to help us bring this to life."

Grimm was an easy cast considering he had already been playing the character in the live-stage adaptation. Not everyone was too pleased with this decision, however, and the hashtag #NotMyBlippi remains popular across social media sites, posted by parents annoyed with the additional actor (via TikTok). However, Grimm also took to TikTok to explain how he got the role and his enthusiasm for the part makes it clear he's an excellent standard-bearer for the character, even if he's not quite Stevin John.

Kaitlin Becker As Meekah

Active Since: 2013

Actor: Kaitlin Becker has been playing Meekah since the character first appeared on the show. Before that, she was part of a number of other children's and young teen shows. Her biggest role to date remains one of her earliest, co-starring as Kaitlin in Sunny Side-Up, another educational TV show aimed at children. Becker also voices Gwen in Camp Camp, appears in two episodes of Sesame Street Mecha Builders, and voices Frankie in Transformers: Rescue Bots Academy. Her sole film performance is in Annie, the live network musical, as Grace's Assistant.

Notable Movies & TV Shows:

Title Role Sunny Side Up (2013-2016) Kaitlin Annie (2014) Grace's Assistant Sesame Street Mecha Builders (2022) Barb/Ada Camp Camp (2023-2024) Gwen

Character: Meekah is one of Blippi's main helpers. Becker appears in 17 episodes between Blippi and its spinoff, Blippi's Treehouse, and she also stars in her own show, Meekah. Meekah is as energetic as Blippi and as interested in learning new things. She's a fun-loving addition to the series and gives Blippi someone to play off.

Cashae Monya As Meekah

Active Since: 2023

Actor: Cashae Monya appears as Meekah in 16 episodes of Blippi as well as 14 episodes of her own show, Meekah. Beyond playing Meekah, Monya has only had one other role, as Frankie in Nobody Wants to Be Just Ordinary, an indie comedy that follows the lives of actors and comedians in Hollywood who band together for one feature film after failing many times on their own.

Notable Movies & TV Shows:

Title Role Nobody Wants to Be Just Ordinary (2023) Frankie

Character: Just as Grimm and John share Blippi duties, Monya shares Meekah duties with Becker. The actors will even appear in the same episodes sometimes. One-half of the episode features Becker and the other half Monya. Generally, Monya is paired with Grimm, while Becker and John share the screen. Having two sets of actors portray the same characters allows episodes of Blippi to take place in multiple locations as two pairs of actors means two separate shoots that can be combined for the episode.

Michael Deni As Park Ranger Orson

Active Since: 2017

Actor: Michael Deni portrays Park Ranger Orson in two episodes of Blippi and in 21 episodes of a spin-off, T-Rex Ranch, but this kid-friendly role seems to be the outlier of his career. Though Deno only began acting professionally in 2017, he has appeared in over 30 productions since then. His other notable TV roles include Jim Baker in the cast of Into the Wild Frontier and Hank Sturges and David Dressman in Betrayed. His notable film performances include David in Beaus of Holly, Owen Watson in Shark Side of the Moon, and Sean in Direct Son.

Notable Movies & TV Shows:

Character: Park Ranger Orson, as his name suggests, is a park ranger in Blippi and the spin-off series T-Rex Ranch. Orson, along with his helpers Wyatt and Asher, often have their own adventures separate from Blippi. Orson's educational moments tend to be about dinosaurs and other animals.
