A Simple Favor 2 Gets Major Filming Update From Director

The forthcoming crime comedy thriller A Simple Favor 2 has received a major filming update from director Paul Feig. Based on Darcey Bell’s 2017 novel of the same name, the movie serves as the sequel to the Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively-led 2018 release, which centered on a widowed blogger who attempts to solve the mysterious disappearance of her wealthy friend. A few years after the theatrical release of the movie, Amazon MGM Studios greenlit A Simple Favor 2 for development and production, with Feig along with other cast members also confirmed to be returning.

Now, according to Variety, Paul Feig reveals that filming for A Simple Favor 2 was only a few days away from wrapping up when news reached him that the first film is currently the No. 1 most watched movie on Netflix. The director also revealed that he informed all the cast members after he heard the news, adding that he said to them: “we’re doing the right thing here.”

What To Expect From A Simple Favor 2

A Simple Favor was largely a success following its release in 2018. According to the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an impressive approval rating of 84%, one of the best of Feig’s directing career so far. The movie was praised for its peculiar neo-noir style, its many twists and turns that kept audiences hooked and at the edge of their seats right till the very end, along with its near perfect balance of humor and melancholy.

This positive reception from critics added to the movie’s commercial performance, grossing over $97 million worldwide on a $20 million budget, influenced Fieg’s decision to work on a sequel to this palpable thriller, the first of his career so far. After months of production on the movie, a few set photos for A Simple Favor 2 have shown some of what can be expected from the sequel. For instance, set photos have revealed Kendrick and Lively on the island of Capri, with the latter tying the knot with a wealthy Italian businessman played by Michele Morrone.

Aside from the multiple burning questions that this sequel will look to address, it has also been confirmed that, along with the aforementioned protagonists, a good number of the A Simple Favor cast are returning, as well as new faces like Elena Sofia Ricci, Alex Newell, and Taylor Ortega.
