Doubling Down With The Derricos is back for another heartwarming season and promises the viewers a wild ride as they explore the changing family dynamics with the kids all growing up. The show, which premiered in August 2020, follows a longtime couple, Karen and Deon Derrico, who introduced their brood, which included quintuplets, two sets of twins, and triplets. Karen and Deon showed the world how it is to raise 14 kids and navigate through life while conducting their daily activities as usual. Just like the Duggars, the Derricos stuck with a specific naming convention for their children.

Every kid's name starts with the letter D. Darian is their oldest daughter, followed by Derrick, and after that came a set of twins, Dallas and Denver. Later, Karen and Deon welcomed quintuplets Deniko, Daris, Deonee, Daician and Daiten, followed by triplins Diez, Dior and Carter. However, Carter died immediately after birth. After a while, the Derricos welcomed their most recent triplets, Dawsyn, De'Aren and Dyver. A lot is happening in Doubling Down With The Derricos season 5, with Karen and Deon planning to move into a new house, their daughter going to college and GG, making adjustments regarding her health.

The Derrico’s New Home

Did The Derricos Move Into A Bigger House?

In this captivating installment, viewers will be treated to a rollercoaster of emotions as the Derricos relieve some of their unforgettable moments. The Derricos's home can no longer accommodate their growing family, so they are in search of a bigger house. The couple has been looking for a bigger house for their family for a while now. In Doubling Down With The Derricos season 3, the duo considered moving to another state.

The couple were on a family vacation in Myrtle Beach when Karen suggested that the family move to South Carolina. Karen, who hails from Kingstree, South Carolina, had been trying to move the family there, but Deon wasn't in for the idea. Deon's mother, GG, also wasn't willing to move, and the kids were conflicted about whether to move without the family matriarch. The Derricos live in Las Vegas, Nevada, but they have a vacation house in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

The couple struggled to raise their children in a smaller house in Doubling Down With The Derricos season 4, where the kids were often caught on camera wresting to get their time in the bathroom. Karen acknowledged that the size of the house could be a problem and cause a loss of stress for their family. At the same time, Deon acknowledged that he felt like they were in "one room."

The family has been going through this phase for a while now and even had intense fights about their small house in the previous Doubling Down With The Derricos seasons. In season 5, Karen continues to express her displeasure with living in their current home, adding that she feels stuck and hopeless. The Derricos are having a hard time fitting into their space, and Karen has had enough of their broken home appliances (via TLC).

"Life keeps going on, the children are growing up, and yet I feel stuck. You know, like, stuck in the same small house year after year. I don't want to feel hopeless yet, I can't help it."

The Changing Family Dynamics

The Derrico Kids Are Growing

Close

There are many kids who are growing up in Derricos' household. Karen and Deon have to keep up with all the changing dynamics in their household, with their oldest, Darian, preparing to join college. Derrick is a teenager, whereas twins Dallas and Denver are in their pre-teen years. Therefore, saying that the Dericos have their hands full in most cases would be an understatement. After all, taking care of 14 children whose needs are changing is no walk in the park.

However, the Derricos have found efficient ways to ensure smooth sailing for all their kids. For instance, the kids' paternal grandmother, GG, plays a huge role in helping the Derricos raise all the children. It's pretty impressive that Karen and Deon are juggling 14 children at different stages of their lives. Amid all the things going on with their children, Karen and Deon are also navigating through GG's cancer journey.

Deon and Karen are proud parents of 14 children, including sets of multiples. The couple isn't done having kids yet, and might be adding another child or two to their family. While appearing on Sherri Shepherd's show, the Doubling Down With The Derricos stars didn't shut down pregnancy rumors but instead said they would be willing to whatever blessing God brought to their family. "I want as many as God bless me with," Deon chimed in, adding that their 14 kids filled their home with laughter and love.

Deon and Karen's kids range from four-year-old triplets Dawsyn, De'Aren, and Dyver to 18-year-old Darian. The couple also shares quintuplets, triplets, two singletons, and triplins with two serving boys from the set of triplets. One of Deon and Karen's triplins died shortly after birth. Karen had a miscarriage in Doubling Down With The Derricos season 3, which was the star's third consecutive miscarriage and seventh overall. The Derricos have been pregnant six times and have conceived all the kids naturally.

What Happened To GG Derrico?

GG Has A Tough Decision To Make

Close

Deon's mom, GG, has been a regular on Doubling Down With The Derricos. Karen, Deon, and the kids are quite close with the family matriarch, who was unfortunately diagnosed with lung cancer in 2014. In Doubling Down With The Derricos season 4, after having open-heart surgery, the audience watched as Karen learned cancer had returned. There was a "baseball-sized" mass in her lungs, as the doctors explained, and being inoperable meant that GG explored alternative treatments such as radiation and chemotherapy. GG promised to take whatever treatment would help her stay longer with her grandkids.

"I am willing to explore this option if it makes me feel better and gives me more time with my grandbabies. But if it makes me sick and weak and I am unable to spend quality time with my family, hey, continuing to do chemo will not be worth it for me."

Although she hasn't been posting a lot on her social media platforms, Deon wished GG a happy birthday on her 74 birthday in August 2023, posting a picture of him, Karen and GG. Deon also shared a selfie with his mother on Mother's Day with the caption, "Happy Mother's Day to you, Ma. Grandma to many!!" In both pictures, GG looked amazing and in high spirits. The incredible grandma is also back on Doubling Down With The Derricos season 5, where the viewers will see her struggle with the decision of whether to continue with her chemotherapy treatment or not.

Deon and Karen have walked through the cancer treatment journey with GG, even when she struggled with chemotherapy side effects such as low white blood cell count.

Not only will GG share news on her cancer treatment progress, but she will also help the Derrico kids with their history classes.

GG, who is an integral part of the Derrico family, will teach the kids about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. since Karen and Deon are still homeschooling their children. There might be more updates on GG's health and how she is doing later on, Doubling Down With The Derricos.

Doubling Down With The Derricos airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. E.T. on TLC.
