How To Give Dogmeat Armor In Fallout 4
While Dogmeat is an immortal companion in Fallout 4, he is still susceptible to damage when attacked, warranting the need for armor. It can be extremely frustrating when he gets injured at the most crucial moments, resulting in the unnecessary use of Stimpacks. While you can wait for him to spring back up at the end of combat, it becomes burdensome when you need extra help during intense encounters.
By equipping Dogmeat with armor, he'll be safer when wandering beside you, facing the threats of the Commonwealth. Players won't need to be so concerned if he gets clubbed by Fallout's Super Mutants with a Sledgehammer, or if one of your stray bullets unintentionally grazes him in the crossfire when attacking enemies. Moreover, your furry friend will look as stylish as you when geared up as a fellow wastelander.

Where To Find Dog Armor
Every Dog Meat Armor Gear
Dog armor comes in several varieties; normal, light, and heavy. All of which are dropped randomly upon defeating attack dogs, and can be picked up as loot. These canine beasts are usually found lurking around raider encampments or accompanying formidable enemies like Super Mutants.
These dogs are quite vicious, but with the help of Dogmeat in Fallout 4, it won't be too much of a challenge to bring these beasts down and yield their armor as a victory prize for your furry friend. There are a few reliable locations in the Commonwealth where you can come across many of these attack dogs to acquire the full armor ensemble.
Neither light nor heavy dog armor offers additional defensive bonuses compared to the standard version. All three options do offer unique styles and appearances, allowing you to customize Dogmeat to compliment your own look.
East of Jamaica Plain
On the east side of Jamaica Plain, you will find a crumbling overpass with a raider camp situated on top. By climbing up the overpass, you will confront three attack dogs named Kate, Kyle, and Alissa. Each of these attack dogs has a chance of dropping any one of the dog armor types, including wielding goggles and various bandanas, which can be worn by Dogmeat and yourself, giving you the option to match your animal companion.
Ensure you kill all three dogs to get the most out of the loot drops. Fortunately, these enemies will eventually respawn after some time, allowing you to return and farm for any armor pieces that you may have missed out on your first encounter.
Dark Hollow Pond & Med Tek Research
The Hollow Pond, accessible by heading directly south from Concord, has a jetty in its center where a raider and attack dog stand posted. There is also a raider camp close by, near a large silver-standing tube. By attacking both adversaries, you can pick up any of the dog armor sets in Fallout 4.
Another location, east of Med Tek Research, beside a ruined bus, occasionally yields heavy dog armor, but this depends on the players' level. Visiting either of these locations is a great way to collect all three variants of dog armor.
Rocky Narrows National Park
To reach Rocky Narrows Park in Fallout 4, return to the Corvega Assembly Plant, and then continue west. Between Walden Pond and the park, players will come across a small cave guarded by mongrels. Upon slaying these brutal creatures, you will find dog armor lying near a few dog bowls on the ground, as shown in ZiggyD Gaming's video on YouTube.
Nearby, there is also a small overhang with a pack of aggressive wild dogs beneath it. By killing the dogs and investigating their den, you can find a chain collar and a dog helmet. A reinforced dog collar can also be found in the Nuka World DLC, allowing you to complete the ensemble.
Dogmeat Armor Accessories
Aside from dog armor, Dogmeat can be accessorized with some of the coolest cosmetic items in Fallout 4, like goggles and bandanas. Although they only serve aesthetic purposes, these are the most stylish options, giving your furry friend a more house-pet-style look.
There are a total of nine bandana variants available in Fallout 4, each of which can be worn by yourself or your faithful German Shepherd. These are found randomly within the Wasteland, or can be purchased from wandering scavengers.
To have Dogmeat match you as a vault dweller, a Blue Bandana can be found on a boat with a mutated dolphin, by the docks south of the USS Constitution. Alternatively, a red variant is found on a dresser inside the first house to your right upon entering Concord.
For those interested in more eccentric styles compared to plain variants, The Stars and Stripes Bandana can be found on a shelf in the clothing store of the Monsignor Plaza. This settlement is located northwest of the Old North Church, across the bridge. The Jangles Bandana is discreetly hidden under a gorilla chair in the Nuka World DLC, while The Leopard Print Bandana, one of the rarest items in Fallout 4, can spawn in any random location.

Aside from Dogmeat, the Junkyard dog, found in a random encounter while exploring the Commonwealth, can also equip dog armor. Players can purchase Gene as a pet from its owner, by passing a Charisma check of 6, or persuading the breeder to reluctantly let the dog go for 250 Bottle Caps in Fallout 4.
While not a companion follower like Dogmeat, you can send your new pet to any of your settlements in Fallout 4 and assign it the role of Guard Dog. You can visit the Rottweiler whenever you like, outfitting it with any dog armor pieces or accessories you have to spare, after giving a set to Dogmeat.
