How To Romance Nemesis In Hades 2
Nemesis is Retribution Incarnate and Melinoe’s central rival at the Crossroads in Hades 2. The daughter of Nyx is incredibly harsh towards Melinoe, although that doesn’t seem to stop her from being a viable romance option for the Princess of the Underworld. Nemesis has a tough shell, but with enough Nectar anything is possible.
Nemesis appears early on in Hades 2 as an uneasy ally and antagonist toward Melinoe. The intense demi-god repeatedly casts doubts over Melinoe’s ability to confront the Titan of Time and even challenges the player on their runs throughout the Underworld. From DPS checks to taking items from Charon’s Shop, Nemesis is more likely to pose as an obstacle to players’ journeys rather than a help. Regardless, Retribution Incarnate is an incredible resource for Keepsakes and one of the more interesting romance options in Hades 2.
How To Romance Nemesis In Hades 2
To romance any character in Hades 2, you need to begin building a reputation with your desired character. There are four ways to build reputation with Nemesis: gifting Nectar, bath salts, ambrosia, and twin lures. Aside from Nectar, each of these methods require you to unlock specific Incantations to access these reputation-building activities. This means that pursuing your potential beloved will involve plenty more runs throughout the four layers of the Underworld to gather the necessary reagents and resources.
Romancing Nemesis requires a lot of gifting, but the demi-god often leaves her post at the Crossroads. If you see that Nemesis is gone, hold onto your gifts and wait until after you next run to find her again.
Nectar will only take you so far, but it is essential to start off any budding romance. Nectar is acquired through a variety of methods. First, it is a room reward in the Underworld. Although not expressly common, you are likely to run into it at least once on any given run.
Next, you can also purchase Nectar from either Charon or the Wretched Broker. Giving a character Nectar does not necessarily mean that you wish to pursue a romance, as it primarily works to acquire Keepsakes. To further a romance, you need to use advanced gifts.
The Rite of Social Solidarity
The Rite of Social Solidarity is an Incantation that becomes available later in the game. This Incantation requires two Nectar and two Garlic, which is only acquired by visiting and surviving on the surface. Once this Incantation has been performed, Melinoe can give Ambrosia to Nemesis to invite her for a drink. This is a much faster way to gain reputation with Retribution Incarnate and will further your romance with the antagonist. You can purchase further Ambrosia from the Wretched Broker at the Crossroads.
The Rite of River Fording
Fishing is an odd, but effective date in Hades 2. By performing the Rite of River-Fording, the Crossroads Pier is restored and Melinoe is given a twin lure to gift. So long as you have already given Nemesis a Nectar, you can deepen your relationship with the demi-god by giving her the twin lure. This Incantation costs two Cattails and four Driftwood. Although this seems like a perfect place to whip out the fishing pole tool, it is exclusively for fishing dates with Melinoe’s beloved.
The Rite of Vapor Cleansing
Perhaps the most romantically forward option, the Rite of Vapor Cleansing establishes a hot tub at the Crossroads wherein Melinoe can go to bond with any character of her choosing. The Incantation requires two Moly, two Lotus, and two Nightshade. To acquire Nightshade, you need to unlock the Flourish Soil Incantation and equip the Silver Spade tool. Completing this Rite gives Melinoe a bath salt, which can then be given to Nemesis.
Nemesis’ Keepsake In Hades 2
Your first reward for giving Nemesis Nectar is her Keepsake, the Evil Eye, and perhaps the most fitting buff possible, the demi-god of Retribution. This easily ranks among the best Keepsakes in Hades 2. Whenever active, you deal up to 30% increased damage to the enemy that ended your last run.
This includes either a general enemy type that might have slain you, or a specific boss. If you find yourself stuck on a particular boss or region in Hades 2, then this can make your next run much easier.
To get the Evil Eye, all you need to do is acquire Nectar. Whenever you next see her, whether it is on a run through the Underworld or at the Crossroads, select the Gift prompt and select the Nectar material. She will begrudgingly give you the Evil Eye out of custom, but this opens the door for future romance options with the character. Once you have done this, you will begin to see Nemesis far more often in Erebus.
How To Beat Nemesis’ Trials In Hades 2
Nemesis has three Underworld encounters: a DPS check, trade, and wager trial. The DPS check is an event wherein you need to quickly deal 1,000 damage to Nemesis in five seconds. For this task, the Moonstone Axe with Hephaestus’ Volcanic Strike boon is your best bet, but any of the Godly boons in Hades 2 that provide a damage buff to basic or Omega attacks will help reach this threshold. The trade is fairly straightforward, as Nemesis offers Melinoe a random item in exchange for gold coins.
For the timed trial, boons from either Hermes or Apollo, which both help with range and speed, will help you quickly intercept Nemesis’ potential kills.
The wager time trial is by far the hardest of Nemesis’ trials in Hades 2. In this encounter, you need to slay more enemies than the demi-god in an encounter. If you succeed, Nemesis gifts you coins, although you lose coins if you fail. The easiest way to pass is to wait until Nemesis has damaged an enemy, then dash attack to steal the kill. Passing either the wager trial or DPS check will both help to grant you reputation with Nemesis in Hades 2.
