Lando still wants to be a Rebel and has admitted his guilt, aiming for a second chance.

Lando's loyalty to Mothma and the Rebellion might just earn him a favorable outcome.

Lando Calrissian just gained a key ally amid his ongoing trial for betraying the entire Rebellion. Set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, Marvel Comics' ongoing Star Wars series has been revealing the never-before-seen event where Lando faced a military tribunal, a major surprise considering his status as a general in Episode VI. To that end, it seems as though Lando finally has an ace of hope in this new Star Wars arc.

As seen at the end of Star Wars #46 by Charles Soule and Madibek Musabekov, Mon Mothma returns from her recent capture, having been kidnapped by Scarabi who had demanded more than the Rebellion could afford for a ransom. Rather than risking the Empire getting their hand on the key Rebellion leader, the Alliance stages a desperate rescue mission to get Mothma back. However, Mothma's return to Lando's trial would have never been possible without Lando himself in this new issue.

Unwilling to rest despite her kidnapping, Mothma is determined to participate and continue the trial proceedings. As a result, this is good news for Lando who's likely gained some key favor after this issue, not only by rescuing Mothma but also for what he said to her while doing so.

Lando Is Betting It All on Mom Mothma

Calrissian Still Wants To Help The Rebellion

Knowing full well that other judges like General Crix Madine would like nothing more than to throw him out of an airlock, Lando is rolling the dice and hoping to gain some support from Mon Mothma in the face of a trial that thus far hasn't been looking good. Despite his noble intentions to save his friend Lobot, Lando still sold Rebellion secrets to Jabba the Hutt. However, Calrissian still knows he was wrong, and has fully admitted to his guilt.

However, Lando makes it clear to Mothma that he still wants to be a Rebel if given a second chance. Having been the only one who could identify the kidnappers, Lando was allowed to join the rescue mission despite his ongoing trial. As such, it looks as though the effort has hopefully paid off, and that Mothma will be the one to give Lando the second chance he's hoping for, explaining his future as a Rebellion general in the near future ahead of Return of the Jedi.

Even Lando Knows How Important Mothma Is

"The Architect of The Rebellion"

It's also worth noting that Lando knows just how important Mon Mothma is to the Alliance overall as one of the Rebellion's key architects. Humorously, Mothma wondered if Lando would simply just kill her and escape his trial, though Calrissian clearly proved his loyalty to the cause by ensuring her safety and return to the Rebellion. As such, the odds are finally looking like they might finally land in Lando's favor, setting up the next chapter of his life in the Star Wars timeline as a genuine hero of the Rebellion.

Star Wars #46 is available now from Marvel Comics.
