Wonder Woman's Gorgeous New Costume Takes Gatsby-Mania to the Next Level

Summary Diana's stunning 1920s outfit in Wonder Woman #9 transports her back to the Gatsby era.

It is in this dreamscape that the Amazon princess dons a pearl-white and champagne-gold flapper dress.

However, Wonder Woman's Great Gatsby look is missing two CRITICAL accessories.

WARNING: Contains Potential Spoilers for Wonder Woman #9!

Wonder Woman officially gets her 'Great Gatsby' moment with a stunning new costume that transports the Amazon princess back to the peak of the roaring twenties. This undeniably gorgeous outfit is sure to turn heads, but there are two accessories missing that every Justice League fan will likely bemoan as a missed opportunity.

Diana's 1920s appearance authentically encapsulates the emotional depth of Fitzgerald's American classic, reflecting both its highs and lows.

Wonder Woman #9, by Tom King and Daniel Sampere, continues the Sacrifice story arc as Diana once again faces The Sovereign, who's determined to break her will. In issue #8, The Sovereign used the Lasso of Lies to try to manipulate Diana into surrendering to him.

This time, however, he takes a different approach and throws Diana into solitary confinement, a particularly cruel punishment for her, considering how much she thrives on social connection. To combat this torture, Wonder Woman retreats into her mind and escapes into fantastical dreamscapes, including one reminiscent of The Great Gatsby.

Wonder Woman's 1920s look is notably lacking two crucial accessories—Superman and Batman

Wonder Woman Gets Her Great Gatsby Moment in STUNNING Era-Accurate Flapper Dress

Issue #8 showcases a myriad of dreamscapes conjured by Wonder Woman as she seeks refuge from The Sovereign's torment of solitary confinement. Despite their diversity, one element remains constant: Colonel Steve Trevor, Diana's foremost and current love interest. Among these fantasies, a particularly striking one transports Wonder Woman and Steve to a lavish 1920s mansion, complete with period-appropriate attire. Here, Diana dazzles in a pearl-white and champagne-gold flapper dress, complemented by a bandeau, elbow-length gloves, and a three-string pearl necklace.

Despite the prevailing joy, Diana and Steve are captured in a somber light, their faces drawn and saddened as they embrace. Adding to the weight of the atmosphere is their conversation, focusing on Steve's non-existence, as he exists only as a figment of Diana's subconscious. This somber tone resonates well with the aesthetic of The Great Gatsby, mirroring the remorseful conclusion of F. Scott Fitzgerald's tale. Therefore, Diana's 1920s appearance authentically encapsulates the emotional depth of Fitzgerald's American classic, reflecting both its highs and lows.

Tom King and Daniel Sampere Robbed Me of Seeing the Trinity Get ‘Gatsby-ized’ (Where Are Batman and Superman?)

As previously mentioned, Wonder Woman's 1920s look is notably lacking two crucial accessories—Superman and Batman. From a narrative perspective, it's understandable why King opted not to include the other two-thirds of the Trinity. However, for those who adore the SuperWonderBat dynamic, it was disappointing that Diana's two closest allies didn't make an appearance in her dreamscapes. It would have been beyond entertaining to witness Bruce and Clark transported to the 1920s alongside Diana. While this storyline didn't unfold for such an interaction, there remains hope that in future narratives, Batman and Superman will undergo a Gatsby-inspired transformation alongside Wonder Woman.
