Star Wars: The Acolyte showrunner Leslye Headland revealed how many seasons she hopes Star Wars' newest show will have in a recent interview, highlighting her adoration for the franchise. The Acolyte is the next to be released of Star Wars upcoming TV shows, slated for a two-episode premiere on June 4th on Disney+. The show is garnering considerable attention, in no small part because it represents an era of the Star Wars timeline not yet explored on-screen. Set 100 years prior to the prequel trilogy, The Acolyte will reveal the inner workings of the Jedi during the High Republic Era.
This era evidently will offer The Acolyte much to explore, as showrunner Leslye Headland shared that she would be happy to continue working on the show for the foreseeable future in a recent interview with Collider. Headland explained:
"This is my dream job. I'm saying three [seasons] because I'm hoping they'll allow me to do that, but if I could snap my fingers, it would just be, this is my job until I retire. I actually can't think of a higher creative or career peak than working on Star Wars. So, I really am good. I don't really need to do anything else."
Headland's enthusiasm about the show not only reveals how much the showrunner loves Star Wars but also how much this period in the larger Star Wars universe offers in terms of storytelling.

The Acolyte Introduces A New Era Ripe For Exploration
Close
It's no surprise Leslye Headland is so optimistic about the ability to extend The Acolyte into three seasons. Set 100 years before Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, during a golden age for the Jedi and the Republic, The Acolyte opens up innumerable possibilities for Star Wars stories. In fact, as a prequel to the prequel trilogy, the show can (and seemingly will) do considerable work to explain the issues that emerge within the Jedi Order and the Republic throughout the prequel movies. Moreover, as an era yet unexplored on screen, countless new characters and plots can be introduced.
The Acolyte has already released significant evidence that it will do exactly that. Not only have the show's teasers and trailers revealed countless new Jedi Masters and Padawans, but also, the show is clearly breaking with convention in an exciting way. For one, multiple new Jedi are non-human, including the first live-action Wookiee Jedi in Star Wars canon, Master Kelnacca. Moreover, The Acolyte will introduce a Force-sensitive coven of witches and new, mysterious dark side Force-users, one of whom opts for knives over the conventional lightsaber.
The show is clearly breaking with convention in an exciting way.
While the longevity of The Acolyte isn't clear yet, it's obvious that showrunner Leslye Headland is happy to be signed on for the long haul, which could mean a brilliant future for the show. Given that The Acolyte also takes place 100 years before The Phantom Menace, the show would also have plenty of ground to cover before the prequels should the franchise decide to continue The Acolyte's story. Although that future may not be revealed for some time, Headland's comments about Star Wars: The Acolyte certainly suggest the show will be an absolute thrill.
