Incredibly Rare Palworld Pals Get Big Changes Thanks To Fun New Mod

Summary The Shiny Pals mod adds rare, recolored critters to Palworld for bragging rights, not gameplay advantages.

35 Shiny Pals currently available in Palworld, with more expected as the mod creator continues updates.

Shiny Pals offer extra collection challenge and aesthetic flair, but no stat advantages in battles.

Palworld players are already spoilt for choice when it comes to the amount of critters on offer but those wanting to collect some especially rare pals are in luck thanks to this new mod. Given the similarities between Palworld and Pokémon, it stands to reason that an inventive fan would find a way to bring Shinies, one of the latter's most popular features, into Pocket Pair's open-world survival game. While they may not provide any kind of mechanical advantage, it's always fun to show off a particularly rare Pal that very few people have the opportunity to train.

Posted to CurseForge by creator Zinkenite, the modder's "Shiny Pals" add-on does what one would expect by providing Palworld an opportunity to spawn a recolored critter that is notoriously rare to find in the wild. The mod itself is still in its infancy so only a handful of Pals have a chance to spawn as a Shiny variant but even though it's only a month old it's already received an update adding five new forms. At the time of writing, 35 Shiny Pals can be found in Palworld so Trainers better start scouring the landscape for elusive finds.

What's The Point Of Shiny Pals?

They're More For Bragging Rights Than Anything Else

Much like in Pokémon, Shinies don't really have a mechanical purpose in Palworld and exist solely as a means to add an additional aesthetic flair to the game's cast of critters. Zinkenite doesn't provide a specific spawn rate for their Shinies but given the inspiration, they're probably extremely rare. Every Pokémon game has a slightly different average when it comes to how frequently Shinies spawn, but the standard is 1/500, so Palworld players will need to be extra vigilant to ensure they don't accidentally fly past one of these uncommon curiosities.

It's also worth noting that, much like Pokémon, Shiny Pals don't have any stat advantages when compared to the standard forms. They are purely an extra collection challenge given how long players will need to grind to complete a full roster of normal Pals and their Shiny forms. Having said that, they could serve as a fun means to differentiate between two players' Pals during a multiplayer game but that's hardly a major advantage.

Whether or not Pocket Pair has any plans to bring Shiny Pals to Palworld in any kind of official format remains unknown but the developer is committed to providing players with new content. The next major update will be the Arena, a new PvP mode that will see players going head to head with their team of Pals in support. What better way to flex on a foe with a team of Shiny Pals?
