Dark Ahsoka Season 2 Theory Reveals How Baylan Will Uncover An Ancient Sith Power
Summary Baylan Skoll seeks a dark power on Peridea to end the galaxy's destructive cycle, but he may unleash a being called Abeloth.
Abeloth’s actions in the Star Wars Legends timeline imply a fate worse than death for Baylan.
Palpatine may have learned his Force-draining power from Abeloth, setting up his return in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Baylan Skoll may not be a Sith Lord, but a chilling Ahsoka season 2 theory hints that he will discover an ancient dark-side power. A former Jedi who survived Order 66, Baylan believed that the Order's destruction and the Empire's ascendancy were inevitable, a vicious cycle constantly repeated throughout history. He sought power not to rule like a Sith, but to bring the cycle to an end, and this quest brought him to the planet Peridea in another galaxy. Balyan sensed a dark power calling to him that he believed would finally allow him to complete his mission.
While Baylan's ultimate goal may be noble, the power he senses on Peridea may be far more deadly than he could imagine. The statues that Baylan finds at the end of Ahsoka season 1 suggest that he is being summoned by a character from the Star Wars Legends continuity. If this is true, it would grant Baylan the power he seeks but likely destroy him and bring about the destruction he hoped to avoid. This character also has a unique ability in Legends, one which has appeared in canon and could connect Ahsoka season 2 to a dangerous Sith power.

Abeloth's Star Wars Legends Story Explained
A terrifying creature cast out by the Force Gods of Mortis
Close
Introduced in the Star Wars: Fate of the Jedi series, Abeloth was a powerful dark-side entity who fought Luke Skywalker's New Jedi Order 40 years after Return of the Jedi. She was once a servant of the Force gods of Mortis and helped the Father keep the peace between the Daughter and the Son. She became part of their family as the Mother, but since she aged when they did not, she feared that she would lose them. She drank from the forbidden Font of Power and bathed in the Pool of Knowledge, twisting her into the dark entity Abeloth.
Abeloth used her power to drive many young Jedi insane and lure them to her prison, bringing her into conflict with Luke, the Jedi, and even a lost tribe of the Sith.
The Mortis gods created a prison for Abeloth within the Maw Cluster, but after they were killed in Star Wars: The Clone Wars season 3, there was no one to prevent her eventual escape. Abeloth used her power to drive many young Jedi insane and lure them to her prison, bringing her into conflict with Luke, the Jedi, and even a lost tribe of the Sith. Although Abeloth was defeated, Luke feared that she would one day return, so he sent a group of Jedi to find Mortis and claim the dagger that could kill Abeloth for good.
Is Abeloth The Dark Power Baylan Sensed On Peridea?
The planet is connected to the Mortis Gods
Baylan told Shin Hati that he felt a dark power calling to him on Peridea, and many fans have speculated that this is Abeloth. Ahsoka season 1 ends by showing Baylan standing atop statues of the Mortis gods, confirming that this dark power is somehow connected to them. This would align with Abeloth's actions in Legends, where she used false promises to lure Jedi to her prison. Perhaps she has convinced Baylan that she can grant him the power to end the galaxy's cycle of violence, only to betray him once he frees her from her prison on Peridea.
The team behind Star Wars: Fate of the Jedi collaborated with Dave Filoni to connect Abeloth's backstory to the Force gods of Mortis. As the creator of Ahsoka, it would make sense for him to include Abeloth while expanding on their history in canon, especially since so many of his Star Wars projects bring back characters from Legends.
Abeloth's Return Would Mean A Terrible End For Baylan
Her victims suffered a fate worse than death in Legends
Unfortunately for Baylan, he would suffer a horrifying fate if Abeloth were the dark power on Peridea. The young Jedi who Abeloth drove insane and lured to her planet in Legends believed she was a benevolent creature who loved them. However, they quickly discovered the terrible truth: Abeloth maintained her own power by draining her victims' life force. Not only that, she could absorb them into herself, creating a collective of personas that she could use to disguise herself. Luke was heartbroken to realize that one of the people Abeloth absorbed was Callista Ming, a woman he had once loved.
This would be a tragic end to Baylan's arc, believing he had found a way to save the galaxy but unleashing an evil that could destroy everything. Abeloth would drain Baylan's life force entirely or absorb him into her collective, forcing Shin Hati to fight her own master. Another disturbing possibility is for Abeloth to offer Baylan power by having him bathe in the Pool of Knowledge, just as she once did. She offered this to a Sith Lord in Fate of the Jedi, and the experience slowly killed him unless he embraced Abeloth's influence and became her puppet.
Did Palpatine Learn His Greatest Sith Power From Abeloth?
His Force draining ability is nearly identical
While she currently exists only in the Legends timeline, Abeloth's greatest power has already appeared in Star Wars canon. When Emperor Palpatine learned that Rey and Ben Solo were a dyad in the Force, a bond with incredible power, he drained the force energy to restore himself. Abeloth was imprisoned for millennia in Legends, meaning she probably called out to several beings other than Baylan. Perhaps Palpatine or one of his Sith acolytes found a way to Peridea seeking a way to restore him, only for Abeloth to betray the Sith Lord.
Emperor Palpatine / Darth Sidious The senator for Naboo, Palpatine rose to power and influence during the dying days of the Republic. In reality, his public persona was just a mask; he was really Darth Sidious, greatest of the Sith Lords, and he used his political skills and Machiavellian cunning to bring down both the Republic and the Jedi. Palpatine ruled his Galactic Empire for decades, until he was betrayed by his apprentice, Darth Vader. Even this wasn't enough to stop the Emperor, however, as he was resurrected by his followers - only to be defeated once again. However, the experience would have taught Palpatine the secret to draining someone's life force. He could also have discovered the secret by studying ancient texts about the Mortis gods, similar to how Rey learned about Force healing by studying the sacred Jedi texts. This would not be the first time the Mandoverse shows have set up the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, as Project Necromancer is likely related to Palpatine's return. Learning from someone as powerful as Abeloth would also explain Palpatine's other powers during the Battle of Exegol.
Star Wars has previously shown that Palpatine was obsessed with learning the secrets of the Mortis gods. In Star Wars Rebels season 4, Palatine was searching for ruins with a mural of the Mortis gods, which opened a portal to a realm called the World Between Worlds. He had found a way to use Sith magic to peer into it, which may also have allowed him to communicate with Abeloth at some point. Ahsoka season 2 may very well bring back a powerful Legends villain but also tie into the Star Wars sequel trilogy, with Baylan Skoll discovering this ultimate Sith power.
