Ubisoft's fan-favorite Far Cry franchise is pitting its villains against each other in a new comic to decide who's the deadliest. The villains of the Far Cry series are undeniably the most iconic parts of every game. From Far Cry 3's Vaas Montenegro to Far Cry 6's Antón Castillo, these antagonists have stolen the show for many fans. Now, a new comic is pitting them against each other in the ultimate battle royale.
Released on Free Comic Book Day by TokyoPop, Far Cry: Cull the Herd Prelude by Ryan Nichols and A-Wan Lab sets up what's to come as villains from across the Far Cry universe are warped to the prehistoric world of Far Cry Primal by a vengeful god for an all-out battle royale. According to a special message from Team TokyoPop in the prelude story, this "what if" storyline will see these beloved-yet-despicable characters "unleash their inner evil in order to survive."
This epic story comes at a perfect time as it releases during the 20th anniversary of the hit video game franchise, making it a celebratory ode to this iconic series.

While the famous villains of the Far Cry franchise aren't the focus of this Free Comic Book Day prelude, the roster that's been promised for this grand crossover event is so big it will get any fan of the series excited. Perhaps the most notable inclusion is Vaas Montenegro, the iconic antagonist from Far Cry 3 who was so beloved by the fans and the game's creators that he became the face of the game. Even though he was unceremoniously killed off halfway through the game, he was hinted to be alive in the game's DLC. Michael Mando's outstanding performance as the character turned him into one of the most iconic villains in video game history.
Joining Montenegro will be Far Cry 4's Pagan Min, a villain who might not have been as well-regarded as Vaas, but he has joined the ranks as one of Far Cry's best. Far Cry Primal's Priestess Batari will also be making an appearance as the cause of the villains coming together. Plus, to kick things off when the series officially launches, Far Cry 6's Antón Castillo, played famously by Giancarlo Esposito, will be the focus of the comic's very first issue.
One Famous Far Cry Villain is Notably Missing
Where is Joseph Seed?
The most interesting exclusion from this crossover is Far Cry 5's Joseph Seed and his disciples. Eden Gate's religious cult leader made for a fascinating villain in the franchise's fifth installment. However, despite not being mentioned in the official synopsis or the note from Team TokyoPop, it's still possible that he could show up. The comic series is actually named after a mission from Far Cry 5, so there's a chance that he could make a surprise appearance in later issues as the true mastermind behind these villains' arrival in prehistoric times.
No date is currently set for Far Cry: Cull the Herd's first issue. However, given TokyoPop stating that it's "arriving just in time to celebrate the popular video game brand's 20th anniversary," it's likely that it will arrive sometime in 2024. Fans of the Far Cry franchise will want to keep their eyes peeled for more announcements about this exciting crossover event as their favorite villains go head-to-head in the ultimate battle royale.
