Lord Of The Rings’ Aragorn Actor Addresses Potential Return For 2026 Hunt For Gollum Movie
This article covers a developing story. Continue to check back with us as we will be adding more information as it becomes available.
Summary Viggo Mortensen is open to reprising his role as Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, though he hasn't yet been asked.
Mortensen says that the film would have to take his age into account and it would have to be the right decision from a character perspective.
Bringing Mortensen back as Aragorn comes with several key problems.
Aragorn actor Viggo Mortensen addresses his potential return in The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum. Mortensen first played ranger Aragorn back in Peter Jackson's 2001 hit, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. He ultimately bid farewell to the character in 2003 with The Return of the King and didn't return for Jackson's more divisive Hobbit trilogy. Now, the world of Middle-earth is set to return to the big screen once more with the confirmation of The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum from director Andy Serkis.
In a recent interview with GQ, Mortensen reveals that he's open to reprising his role as Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum. The actor stresses, however, that the story would have to do right by the character and, crucially, take his age into account. Check out Mortensen's comment below when asked about his potential return:
"Sure. I don't know exactly what the story is, I haven't heard. Maybe I'll hear about it eventually. I like playing that character. I learned a lot playing the character. I enjoyed it a lot. I would only do it if I was right for it in terms of, you know, the age I am now and so forth. I would only do it if I was right for the character. It would be silly to do it otherwise."
More to come...
