New Mortal Kombat Character's Fatality Is The Most Brutal One

They represent key moments from The Boys that emphasize Homelander's willingness to sacrifice others to maintain his image.
Homelander's gameplay in Mortal Kombat 1 reflects his use of brute force and intimidation.
Mortal Kombat 1 has dropped the official gameplay trailer for its upcoming DLC character, Homelander, and the standout feature is the new characte'rs Fatalities. While all Mortal Kombat Fatalities are devastating, as is their nature, the ones for Homelander come off as exceptionally brutal, all the while staying true to his character.
In a clip from the trailer provided by DiscussingFilm on X (formerly Twitter) – spliced from the full trailer from Mortal Kombat's YouTube channel – Homelander uses his first Fatality on Liu Kang. He launches Liu Kang into the air, who then gets splattered on the front of a passenger jet. Homelander then frees him, only to drop him in the ship’s engine.
The second Fatality happens to Sub-Zero, but this time, Homelander keeps it simple by using his heat vision to make the character’s head explode. Adding to the intensity of the move, Homelander then uses his heat vision to split the rest of Sub-Zero’s body in two.

Both of these Fatalities are direct references to how Homelander is in The Boys, both the comic and TV versions. In both takes, one of Homelander’s defining stories is when he and Queen Maeve attempt to rescue a plane from terrorists, only to accidentally make it so that the plane’s controls are destroyed, and they’re forced to abandon the entire plane or else lose face. This moment highlighted further that while Homelander pretends to be a superhero, his image and popularity are more important, and he’s willing to let people die to maintain it.

As for his heat vision, this is simply a reference to the numerous times when Homelander melted his enemies, including bisecting a terrorist who tried to attack him. He’s used this ability multiple times in various ways, including making people explode. The only people who can resist it to an extent are those in The Boys who are equal to him in power and durability, such as Stormfront, Soldier Boy, or in the most recent season, Billy Butcher, when he had acquired Temp V and got superpowers.
The full gameplay trailer for Homelander in Mortal Kombat 1 shows him using basic moves to take down foes while also playing to the camera in key moments. That might seem curious, but it plays to his character. Unlike characters like Peacemaker, Omni-Man, or his inspiration in Superman, Homelander is not a trained fighter. He instead uses brute force and intimidation to win most of his fights. Regardless, Homelander will be available in Mortal Kombat 1 via early access on June 4.
