Nintendo Direct June 2024 Leak Points To One Classic Series' Return
Summary The upcoming Nintendo Direct could reveal more details on the highly anticipated Dragon Quest 3 remake.
The Erdrick Trilogy may see even more remakes beyond Dragon Quest 3, connecting the narratives of the first three games.
Fans speculate that the Dragon Quest 3 remake could tie in the original games' stories, creating a cohesive Erdrick saga experience.
It's been many years since the Dragon Quest franchise graced fans with a new title but it seems like the upcoming Nintendo Direct could bring it excellent news for Erdrick enthusiasts. Unveiled in 2021, Square Enix's remake of Dragon Quest 3 in the style of the Octopath games garnered plenty of adoration from enthusiasts for resurrecting what many consider to be the most important game in the series. In the years following the reveal, information has been sparse but it seems like that's about to change thanks to Nintendo.
Per a post on X (formerly Twitter) by reputable leaker MbKKssTBhz5, more details on the Dragon Quest 3 remake will be highlighted during the Nintendo Direct which is currently scheduled to take place in June.
This comes after the official Dragon Quest X account posted a brief teaser on May 27, celebrated as Dragon Quest Day by the community, stating that "the legend of Erdrick draws near." In the world of Dragon Quest, Erdrick is an honorary title given to legendary heroes, including the protagonist of Dragon Quest 3, who attains it after defeating the villainous Zoma.

Dragon Quest 3 Caps Off The Erdrick Trilogy
Could We Be Getting More Than One Remake?
As many fans eagerly await some kind of update regarding the aforementioned Nintendo Direct, some have taken Square Enix's teaser to mean that an even bigger announcement could be at hand. While the existence of the 2D-HD remake of Dragon Quest 3 has been known for many years, it could be possible that the developer has also been working on additional reimaginings of the older games. "The Legend of Erdrick" isn't one that begins in Dragon Quest 3 but actually spans over the first three games.
The title is first mentioned in the very first Dragon Quest where the Hero must prove that the original Erdrick was their ancestor. In the sequel, Erdrick's equipment can be found in the world, and in Dragon Quest 3, the protagonist is the descendant of the Hero from the first game, making them another member of the storied lineage. Due to these connections, the community has taken to referring to the first three games as the Erdrick Trilogy, prompting many to suspect that additional remakes have been planned alongside the previously announced DQ3.
It could also be the case that the Dragon Quest 3 remake switches up some story beats to tie in the original games' narratives, effectively packaging the entire Erdrick saga into a single game. Given the general scope and length of the Dragon Quest games, it's certainly conceivable that such a method could be utilized to further flesh out the third game's already impressive world-building. Fans will just have to wait and see if the upcoming Nintendo Direct yields any new insights into the project.
