In the world of Dragon Quest, Erdrick is an honorary title given to legendary heroes, including the protagonist of Dragon Quest 3, who attains it after defeating the villainous Zoma.

In the sequel, Erdrick's equipment can be found in the world, and in Dragon Quest 3, the protagonist is the descendant of the Hero from the first game, making them another member of the storied lineage. Due to these connections, the community has taken to referring to the first three games as the Erdrick Trilogy, prompting many to suspect that additional remakes have been planned alongside the previously announced DQ3.
