One Of The Best GTA Games Is Coming To PS Plus On June 7 With A Major Caveat

Summary PlayStation Plus offers a wealth of new titles in May and June, including Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Definitive Edition.

Despite visual issues and glitches in the revamped version, San Andreas still offers a strong core experience for PS Plus members.

Alongside San Andreas, the catalog sees the addition of diverse titles like Dredge and LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 in June.

PlayStation Plus is gaining a wealth of new titles as a part of the Days of Play initiative and while many subscribers will no doubt be pleased to see a classic Grand Theft Auto game added to the catalog, there's a catch. As a part of Sony's push to elevate the value of its service, Sony hosts the annual Days of Play event where it dishes out some extra bonuses to users already embedded in the environment. 2024 is no different as a selection of excellent games is coming to the service in May and June.

Per the official PlayStation Blog, the legendary open-world game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is coming to PlayStation Plus on June 7 which would be unconditionally exciting were it not for the fact that it's the Definitive Edition. The revamped version of the PlayStation 2 classic was released in 2021 and rapidly earned a reputation for its buggy presentation and disappointing visuals. Coupled with its predecessors GTA 3 and Vice City, the Definitive Edition of all three games is regarded as having one of the most disastrous launches in video game history.

There's Still Fun To Be Had In San Andreas

If You Can Ignore Those Hideous Character Models...

Despite being labeled as the best way to play San Andreas, most enthusiasts still hold up the original version as being superior given the fact that it largely works without being bogged down by glitches and ugly visual tweaks. Unfortunately, it's become increasingly difficult to play the older versions given that they were delisted shortly after the release of the Definitive Edition, sparking a great deal of backlash against Rockstar. Having said all that, there's still a great deal of fun to be found on the blood-soaked streets of San Andreas.

Given the fact that PS Plus members won't need to dish out any additional cash for it, the core San Andreas experience is still extremely strong. Presentation problems aside, the action, story, and open-world elements are some of the best Rockstar has ever created with many insisting it to be the studio's best game, even above the monolith that is GTA V. Given how difficult it can be to play the original version, it's certainly not terrible to settle for the Definitive Edition, especially when it doesn't cost its usual price.

GTA: San Andreas isn't the only game gracing the PlayStation Plus catalog in June as it'll be joined by a diverse spread of older and more recent titles. Arguably the biggest addition is Dredge, the Lovecraftian fishing game about trawling the depths for all manner of horrific monsters, while younger audiences will undoubtedly enjoy LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2. Finally, Cricket 24 will no doubt appeal to sports fans, even if they're not all that familiar with the game itself.
