Pokémon TCG: New Full Art Trainer Card Is An Excellent Gen 2 Throwback

Pokémon TCG: New Full Art Trainer Card Is An Excellent Gen 2 Throwback

Summary An upcoming Trainer card in Pokémon TCG will have both a standard and Full Art version for the upcoming Night Wanderer set.

The Full Art version of the Trainer card will likely be valuable, similar to other valuable Trainer-Supporter cards in similar expansions.

The Trainer card allows players to attach Darkness Energy cards to their Pokémon, but it comes with a punitive downside.

A new Full Art Trainer card for Pokémon TCG’s upcoming Night Wanderer set has been revealed and the artwork alone is a great throwback to Generation 2 games set in Johto. Night Wanderer is the next set lined up for release, exclusively in Japan. The expansion will mostly portray elements from the Gen 9’s Mochi Mayhem epilogue for Scarlet and Violet. Later on, a portion of Night Wanderer will be adapted for the Western market with the release of Pokémon TCG: Shrouded Fable, which is set for later this summer.

Ahead of Night Wanderer’s release in early June, however, some cards are starting to be showcased and now, the Full Art version of Janine’s Secret Technique has been shared. As was reported by Pokébeach, the new version of the card features the Poison-type Trainer executing a ninja pose within an area that resembles the Fuchsia Gym. As the Full Art category indicates, the Trainer card’s illustration extends throughout most of the card’s body.

Janine’s Secret Technique Card In Pokémon TCG Will Have Two Versions

The Standard Version Of The Trainer Card Had Already Been Shared

The recently revealed Full Art version of Janine’s Secret Technique is actually one of at least two versions of the upcoming card in the set. The Trainer will also have a standard print, whose illustration does not occupy the entire card and, instead, is limited to the boundaries of the regular card’s frame. This standard version of Janine’s Secret Technique had already been revealed alongside a new Special Illustration Rare Pokémon TCG: Night Wanderer card and several other upcoming cards for the expansion.

“Full Art versions of Trainer-Supporter cards tend to be some of the most valuable in every collection.”

In terms of gameplay, the Trainer card can be useful within some deck compositions. By using, players can choose up to two Darkness-type Pokémon and then search for a Basic Darkness Energy card in the deck and attach it to the respective Pokémon. If Energies were attached to a Pokémon, that Pokémon is now Poisoned. While it does have the downside of inflicting a negative Special Condition, which can be cleared, it compensates for what can be an immediate outburst of power. With two Darkness Energy cards attached immediately, a player can accelerate the Pokémon TCG match significantly.

While the standard and the Full Art version of the card are essentially the same, they do have different rarities and, with it, different prices. It is impossible to determine exactly how much this will cost among collectors and traders, but Full Art versions of Trainer-Supporter cards tend to be some of the most valuable in every collection, second only to some outstanding pieces of rare artwork for fan-favorite creatures. Because Janine is a beloved Gen 2 Trainer, there is a chance the Full Art version of Janine’s Secret Technique in Pokémon TCG: Night Wanderer will be valuable.

For reference, Janine’s Full Art Trainer card for Sun and Moon’s Unbroken Bonds expansion is costing around $ 13.93, according to TCGPlayer.

It is likely that both versions of the Trainer card will make it into the Western market. The Night Wanderer set’s adaptation should make a lot of the cards available with the Shrouded Fable expansion, even if there is a chance that there will be some cuts. Nevertheless, collectors are bound to rip through Pokémon TCG booster packs to find the new Full Art version of Janine’s Secret Technique, as well as several other already revealed cards in the new expansion.
