Shonen Jump's publisher, Shueisha, is finally giving in to the webtoon craze with a brand-new vertical-scrolling app, Jump Toon, allowing fans to read some of their favorite manga in webtoon format along with a plethora of original titles. Manhwa and webtoons have been steadily gaining popularity around the world in recent years, leaving traditional manga apps in the dust, and Shueisha's new service may finally be a step towards keeping up with the times.

Shueisha is finally jumping head-first into the webtoon industry with a new vertical scrolling app called Jump Toon, featuring series exclusively in the webtoon format. The app is currently only available in Japan but can be accessed from a browser from nearly anywhere in the world.

Jump Toon hosts a broad selection of series ranging from romance, fantasy, isekai, reincarnation, action, slice-of-life, and mystery, including a fully-colored webtoon version of Haikyu!! and a new vertical manga by Aneko Yugasaki, the creator of The Rising of the Shield Hero. Shueisha Is Producing Its Own Original Vertical Manga

Shueisha's newest initiative, Jump Toon, is being managed by a newly launched subsidiary called Toon Factory, which is fully in charge of producing titles for the new platform. While Shueisha has only published and distributed manga thus far, this will be the first time Shueisha has tried its hand at in-house production. According to the press release, the aim of this new venture is to keep up with the rising popularity of vertical-scrolling webtoons and the demand for fully-colored manga while also nurturing and supporting creators that may be struggling to keep up with the trend.

As such, Jump Toon hosts a wide range of original series produced by Toon Factory as well as works by other creators. Many of these are consistent with the art style of webtoons that fans are familiar with, while some like Haikyu!! maintain the style of a digitally colored manga. The platform has also licensed the popular Korean webtoon Doctor Elise, which suggests that more Korean manhwa and webtoons could be making their way to the platform in the near future.
