Stardew Valley Player Proves Why Harvey Is The Most Useless Husband

Summary Harvey may be a gentle doctor, but he struggles with tasks like fixing fences, showcasing his lack of practical skills around the farm.

In relationships, Harvey's awkward personality and lack of ambition make him a less appealing choice compared to more dynamic characters.

While Harvey may not be the best farmhand, those who marry him can enjoy perks like delicious meals he cooks on rainy nights.

Stardew Valley is littered with eligible bachelors but it's many believe that Harvey is one of the worst and one player now has conclusive evidence as to why that's the case. The quiet, socially awkward doctor who's always around to stitch up Farmers who may succumb to the horrors of the mines presents like a decent marriage candidate but when it comes to looking after a home, he has a lot to learn. Harvey is a gentle soul who's more comfortable behind his desk than roughing it amongst the animals and crops.

This point was illustrated by Reddit user talbobagginz, who shared screenshots of Harvey as their husband doing his best to mend some of the farm's decaying fences but he didn't exactly do the best job.

While he states that he spent the morning fixing the perimeter, a quick survey reveals that he'd hardly done any work at all, leaving almost every second post broken and unusable. Granted, he's a doctor and not all that handy when it comes to construction and carpentry, but it just demonstrates Harvey's inability to adapt to living the tough life of his spouse.

Harvey Needs To Work On Himself

Is He Married To The Play Or His Job?

While Harvey's certainly not the most disliked person in Stardew Valley (that honor generally goes to Morris, Pierre, or Demetrius) most players agree that when it comes to romancing him, the doctor is painfully dull. He certainly means well but when it comes to his personality, he's awkward and struggles to hold a conversation with the farmer in the early days of their relationship. Those personal barriers eventually break down but in comparison to more dynamic characters like Sebastian who has a realistic and emotional arc throughout the game.

Harvey may be a skilled doctor but even then, his hobbies and personality don't necessarily align with working on a farm. His Eight Heart event confirms that he initially had aspirations to be a pilot but instead of pursuing those dreams, he let his fear of heights overcome him. Admittedly, he does make some substantial jumps in his next Heart Event, but one gets the distinct impression that he's not satisfied with his life even though he's unwilling to make the necessary changes to achieve his goals.

When it comes to settling down in Stardew Valley, it may just be better to leave Harvey to pursue a relationship with Maru given that he hints on multiple occasions that he has a crush on her. Still, those who do settle down with the doctor can look forward to some perks. He's been known to prepare Salmon Dinner, Vegetable Medley, and Crispy Bass on rainy nights, so at least he's good for something.
