Summary The Boys season 4 premieres on June 13, featuring evolving romantic storylines and power struggles among the characters.

Expect heightened stakes and shifting focus on Homelander in season 4, as the vigilantes face growing threats from both him and Victoria Neuman.

Screen Rant's interview with the cast and showrunner Eric Kripke offers insight into character dynamics and what to expect in future seasons of The Boys.

The Boys season 4 is filled with the progression of various romantic storylines, as well as a shift of power, according to the cast and showrunner Eric Kripke. The Boys universe keeps growing as season 4 approaches its June 13 premiere, picking up the strands of storylines from new show Gen V in addition to the events of its previous seasons. Following the war against Soldier Boy in The Boys season 3, season 4 shift the focus back to Homelander and how the band of heroes plans to stop him.

In The Boys season 4, the vigilantes' time is running out as Homelander continues to gain more power with the public. On the political side, Victoria Neuman (played by Claudia Doumit) is preparing for her own battle with Homelander while still posing a danger to the outcasts in her own right. Annie (Erin Moriarty) and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) each do their part to keep the gang together despite dealing with personal and romantic frustrations — not to mention the fact that The Boys season 4 raises the stakes more than ever.

Erin Moriarty Hints At Annie & Hughie's Role Reversal In The Boys Season 4

Close

Screen Rant: Annie and Hughie's relationship was tested by his insecurities last season, but then it seemed like they got to a good place after he rejected further Compound V. How are they doing this season? Will true love prevail, or is there trouble on the horizon?

Erin Moriarty: I mean, there's always trouble on the horizon to a certain degree in there. I feel like as soon as things start to feel like smooth sailing, I'm just gripping onto the boat, waiting for the turbulence and the waves to start again. I would say that last year, we saw Hughie go through some issues and confront some realities about who he is that we never expected. We expected him to be secure in who he was, and Annie points out in a moment when they're having a fight, "You said that my strength was something that you were drawn to, and yet you're contradicting that with your actions," and he broke her heart. I think that reflected how contradictory we are as humans, and it doesn't ultimately mean that we are the person that we fear we are, but it means that's [something] inevitable for all of us. Annie herself might go through something that parallels Hughie's journey in the previous season, in terms of that existential crisis of a moment.

Karen Fukuhara Teases Kimiko & Frenchie's Relationship Status

Speaking of true love, Kimiko and Frenchie have said they're more than lovers and are family. But many fans are wondering, what does that actually mean for their relationship status going into The Boys season 4? What's happening there?

Karen Fukuhara: I don't know. I can't tell you! One thing I will say is that, at the beginning of the series, Tomer and I talked about the two characters' relationship. We said that whatever it becomes, we have no control over, that but there's some kind of magnetic force bringing the characters together like a twin flame. I think that kind of took the weight off of our shoulders, because we're not always thinking about, "Ooh, what's going to happen? Are they something or are they not?" Everyone's speculating, but I think that's what makes it exciting to watch. You never really know what's going to happen, especially with our show. I think once something stabilizes, it all falls apart, so I'm kind of glad that we have not stabilized yet. Claudia Doumit: We love that instability for you. I love it.

Claudia, we saw Victoria betray her adoptive father for her daughter last season. What family dynamics might come into play this season?

Claudia Doumit: Ooh, I haven't been asked that yet. Oh, wait, I have to answer in a vague kind of way. I mean, I know there's a lot happening there. Listen, she's a developing, blossoming teenager. She's going through some transitions there. Eric Kripke: I'll write it, and then you can [say it]. She's dealing with protecting her daughter. The world is getting scarier and scarier, and as she grows ever closer to power, I think she's realizing that she's made quite the devil's bargain. And so, then her interest becomes: how does she save herself and her little girl?

Eric Kripke Status Of The Boys Season 5

At the end of season 4, all I could think was, "Thank God season 5 is coming." Does everyone in this room know what is coming in The Boys season 5?

Claudia Doumit: I never know! Eric Kripke: Even I don't. I mean, we're about a month into the writers' room right now, so we have some pretty cool notions. It's a very raw lava-esque deal right now. It hasn't hardened into anything, but I'm excited. I think there's some crazy sh-t's been talked about, that's for sure.
