V Rising: How To Find (& Beat) Rufus the Foreman

Players attempting to beat Rufus the Foreman in V Rising will want to know how to get around his attacks and how to work around his minions. Rufus is a skilled woodworker who is nominally in charge of the logging camp, but has taken a side interest in being a bandit with a mean crossbow. Defeating Rufus The Foreman will reward players with an ability that will make them much more powerful than before.

Like the Alpha Wolf in V Rising, Rufus the Foreman is a very early boss who is at Level 20 and could be one of the earliest bosses you face in the game. This could be a more challenging fight for that very reason if you do not have a lot of practice defeating Blood Carriers at this point. However, with a little practice and some foreknowledge, you will be able to navigate this boss fight with some ease.

Fighting Rufus The Foreman In V Rising

Minion Swarm

Close

You will most often find Rufus The Foreman at the Bandit Logging Camp in the Farbane Woods. However, if he is not there or if you want to ensure you find him the first time, you can always track his blood at the Blood Altar to give you a clear trail to follow. However, when you do find him, be aware that he will have other Bandits with him that you may have to fight as well.

It is suggested that you attempt this fight at night, as there is not a lot of shade in the Bandit Camp to hide in. If you get hit with the wrong trap in the sunlight, it can prove fatal so to avoid this by choosing to start the battle as night falls.

Rufus The Foreman does not have much that makes him special when compared to the likes of Raziel the Shepherd in V Rising, but the main challenge when facing him is that you are unlikely to have a large amount of kit or powers when you go to face him since he is such an early boss fight. However much like you, he has very little to go on, so it is a fair match in that way.

Rufus The Foreman has about six attacks that players should be aware of and plan for when they go up against him in a fight:

Crossbow Bolt - This is his basic attack. He will fire a crossbow bolt in a straight line. You can see it fairly easily as it glows red.

Throw Net - This is close to a Trapper ability, where he will swing a net around before throwing it into the AOE indicator. If you are caught in the area, you will be stuck for a few seconds. This can be fatal at the wrong time and place.

Rapid Crossbow - Much like many enemies, Rufus will shout a line, “I’m gonna call you target practice!” when he reaches half health, which will trigger a massive attack. This one will fire 8 crossbow bolts in quick succession. It only happens once.

The Thug and Poacher minions can be annoying, but you should plan to avoid rather than attack them unless they are an immediate threat. Damaging him will take away any shields on Rufus and his allies, making him the priority over the minions. They are fairly easy to dodge around, so stay ahead of them and focus your damage directly on Rufus as much as possible.

Likewise, YouTuber Rodwenn points out that Rufus’ shield can be broken with a few attacks, so do not be afraid to approach and try to close in on him. While Rufus can be slippery, stay on his heels and there will not be much he can do. As always, dodge away when he’s close to half-health. As you may not have many weapons or powers available, pick the best weapons in V Rising that you have to fight him and keep whacking.

Rewards From Defeating Rufus The Foreman

Blood Rage

The main reward and the main reason to fight Rufus is the Blood Rage ability that comes with the Tier 1 Blood Spell Point. Unlike with other bosses, this is the only power you can unlock with this particular spell point and this is the only known way to unlock it. It is quite a powerful and useful ability.

Blood Rage - You will hear nearby allies for 40% of your spell power and increase attack speed by 25% and movement speed by 15%. This will last for 4s. It also inflicts Leech on nearby enemies.

Leech is a powerful ability, as it lasts for 5s, and you will heal yourself when you deal a physical attack against an enemy. It will restore your health by 10% of the damage dealt by the physical attack. Additionally, if a target affected by Leech dies, you will then heal an additional 3% of your maximum health. This means that Leech fairly well allows you to stay at high health as long as you also have physical attacks to use.

However, you also receive a few other recipes for defeating Rufus, including some simple but effective furniture for your castle in V Rising to keep you occupied until you find items more to your taste. You will also unlock the Woodworking Bench recipe, which will allow you to make a few more items than before. Lastly, you will get an upgraded recipe for your Crossbow to turn it into the Copper Crossbow.

Name Ingredients Crafting Station Attack Copper Crossbow 16 Copper

12 Planks Simple Workbench +8.9 Physical Power

The amount of materials you need for any recipe can be reduced based on the workbench floor that you use in your Castle.

Notably, the Copper Crossbow pairs well with your new Blood Rage ability for defeating Rufus the Foreman in V Rising.
