How To Get Livestock In Manor Lords (Sheep, Chickens & Horses)

Manor Lords is an up-and-coming city-builder currently in early access; because the game is so new, it can be tricky to figure out the fundamentals of optimizing your empire, like the livestock mechanic. Livestock's primary function is transporting materials from one place to another, saving your people time and gaining you money in the long run as your efficiency increases. There are a few places where livestock can be acquired, and you can even walk through these locations using a cool feature in Manor Lords called the "Visit Mode."

The game's overall flow is a bit less demanding than other city builders, focusing less on resource management and more on assigning each family in your village to produce a specific resource, which means that livestock will let you take your hands off the reins a bit. With transport livestock, your workers will have the resources needed to follow your every command. It'll also mean your buildings go up faster, meaning less waiting time.

How To Unlock Livestock In Manor Lords

Get All 7 Livestock

Manor Lords have seven types of livestock, each of which does something a bit different. Some produce a resource while others carry and transport, but all are helpful to building up your empire and shoring up your productions. Picking the right livestock for the job is important, so check out what each one does.

Livestock Effect Oxen Transport goods and resources Horses Speed up the transaction speed of traders Sheep and Lambs Produce wool in Pastures Mules Move resources between regions Chickens Produce eggs in Burgage Plots Goats Produce hides and meat in Burgage Plots Deer Produce meat when hunted in Hunter's Camps

A few of these, specifically oxen and mules, work together to transport resources. Mules work via Pack Stations, buildings dedicated explicitly to moving things between regions rather than locally.

Mules and everything else can be purchased at Livestock Trading Posts, while Oxen and Horses can also be bought at Hitching Posts.

There are reports that purchasing Mules through Pack Stations is bugged right now, but this issue should be resolved as the game gets patched and ends early access.

Before you go purchasing every animal you can afford, make sure you have room in the stables so they don't run away.

Best Tips For Using Livestock In Manor Lords

If you don't have adequate space in the Stables but need more livestock, hover over the Horseshoe symbol at the top of the screen. Here, you can check out your total livestock space and increase it by buying and upgrading more Hitching Posts. This will work for horses, mules, and oxen, but sheep and lambs take a different space.

When buying sheep and lambs, ensure you have enough pasture space to house and feed them all. You can also upgrade your development branch to unlock sheep breeding, allowing sheep to multiply in the pasture.

Chickens and goats can be raised in Burgage Plots once you've created coops and goat sheds. Deer can be hunted from Hunter's Camps in the woods. These four animal types all produce a resource rather than transporting goods and work to produce these resources passively.

Manor Lords is a unique take on city-builders, adding in real-time tactical battles with updates that deeply expand on the genre. This shift in focus means that players should spend less time micromanaging their resources and resource production, and livestock automation allows them to do just that. While not necessary, livestock will let you sit back from the micromanagement and focus on the bigger picture. No matter which animals you pick, they will be essential to your experience in Manor Lords.
