PS Plus Is Getting One Of The Most Underrated Games Ever Next Week

Summary Tunic, a critically acclaimed indie game, is the hidden gem in the upcoming PlayStation Plus lineup for May 2024.

Avoid using walkthroughs for Tunic to fully immerse yourself in the unique experience of exploration and puzzle-solving.

Alongside Tunic, subscribers can also enjoy popular titles like Destiny 2: Lightfall and Ghostrunner II in a strong month for PlayStation Plus.

PlayStation Plus is offering up yet another collection of stellar games for its users in May and one of them may just be one of the most underrated adventure games in recent memory. While subscribers to the service can look forward to mega-hits like the ever-popular Destiny 2: Lightfall, the latest chapter in the shooter's sprawling saga, it's the small independent games that often make the service stand out. One of the benefits of receiving a random assortment of new titles to play every month is that users can find gems that they otherwise may have missed.

As announced on the official PlayStation blog, one of the PlayStation Plus games for May 2024 is Tunic by the appropriately named TUNIC Team. Released in 2022, the isometric action-adventure game proved to be a critical darling as it racked up plenty of industry awards and plenty of excellent reviews for its compelling gameplay and intricate world-building. Yet despite its success amongst reviewers, it never quite exploded into the mainstream and has remained in the shadow of similar games like Hollow Knight and Ori and The Blind Forest.

Tunic Is An Incredible Experience

Best To Skip The Walkthroughs On This One

Created as an homage to the style of video game that could often be found on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in the 1990s, Tunic wears its Legend of Zelda inspirations on its sleeve. While exploring a sprawling open world littered with enemies, bosses, and items to discover, players will also be working to solve metatextual puzzles as they piece together the game's manual to learn about new skills and abilities. It's a truly unique experience, one that rewards exploration and out-of-the-box thinking when it comes to the myriad puzzles on offer.

A common trend among the Tunic community is to go into the game without any outside knowledge with many even recommending using a pen and paper to jot down notes and create custom maps. A recurring theme in conversations around Tunic is that using a walkthrough would largely defeat the point of the experience. Rather than relying on upgrades and weapons to progress, players are instead forced to rely on their knowledge of the world and mechanics to figure out the path forward.

Tunic isn't the only game joining PlayStation Plus in May as the indie darling is joined by the likes of the aforementioned Destiny 2: Lightfall. Aside from these polar opposite but no less excellent experiences, subscribers can also play EA Sports FC 24 Standard Edition, the latest addition to the publisher's football franchise, and slick and stylish Ghostrunner II, which places players in the role of a cybernetic ninja talented in the ways of parkour. With all these different genres on offer, it's clear that May is an exceptionally strong month for PlayStation Plus.
