Welcome to Derry is set to feature the return of Bill Skarsgård. The actor, who has also starred in Barbarian, Boy Kills World, and The Crow, portrayed the titular antagonist in the 2017 Stephen King adaptation It and its sequel It: Chapter 2. "It" is a shapeshifting alien entity whose most common form is Pennywise the Clown. The upcoming Welcome to Derry, which is still operating under a working title, is a Max show due in 2025 that is set to be a prequel to the original duology.

Per Deadline, Bill Skarsgård will be returning to reprise the role of Pennywise in Welcome to Derry. In addition to reprising the iconic role, he will be an executive producer on the project alongside Jason Fuchs, Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Roy Lee. This is in keeping with a recent push toward having a more involved behind-the-scenes role in his genre projects, as he also executive produced both Barbarian and Boy Kills World.
