MultiVersus Branded "Greedy" By Upset Beta Players Following Full Launch

Summary MultiVersus may disappoint fans by not addressing the lack of communication regarding the handling of in-game currency.

Fans speculate that corporate greed may be behind decisions to not transfer players' saved Gold in MultiVersus.

Despite frustrations with changes in currency and leveling, MultiVersus continues to attract players with its unique gameplay.

As MultiVersus returns after a lengthy hiatus, many members of the community aren't pleased with how developer Player First Games handling the transition of resources from the beta to the full release. The 1.0 release has generally been well received by players and critics, many of whom have championed some smart changes to the movesets of various characters and the expanded roster that includes some fighters no one ever expected to see. Unfortunately, enthusiasts are also irked by how the Gold collections were handled with many pinning the blame on Warner Bros.

Per a Reddit post by user RockmanBN, the player sparked a lengthy conversation amongst the community regarding PFG's "lack of communication" regarding the gold players were saving to purchase new characters and cosmetics when the full version of the game was released.

Assuming that the currency would carry over alongside other resources like Battle Pass tokens, character tokens, and Gleamium, players were disappointed to discover that their hordes of Gold were simply replaced by a single cosmetic based on how much was acquired. Fans believe the problem comes down to corporate greed and poor communication.

Could MultiVersus Have Handled Gold Better?

Players Have Some Decent Suggestions

Player First Games has yet to address why Gold was not transferrable between the different versions of MultiVersus but members of the community believe it was a move mandated by Warner Bros. to force players to log more hours in the game or spend real money on additional characters and cosmetics. This remains pure speculation at the time of writing, but some have taken to suggesting alternate methods that would have been less "greedy." A popular idea involves simply converting Gold into Fighter Currency to provide those who saved up an opportunity to purchase more characters.

While Gold may not have carried over to MultiVersus' full launch, any cosmetics and characters players unlocked would be transferred over to ensure users wouldn't need to grind for the same fighter again. What has muddied the messaging for many fans is the fact that player and character levels have all been reset, so those wanting to immediately jump into a match with a fully-equipped Shaggy stacked with perks will be disappointed. It may be frustrating for veterans, but it does allow for a more level playing field in the full version.

As MultiVersus continues to at least draw players back with its zany fighting antics, the monetization will likely continue to frustrate new and old players alike. The new model requires players to spend between 3000-6000 Fighter Tokens to unlock new characters, which is double what it cost in the beta, and most of the means of earning more of the currency were either removed or drastically altered to grant less. Whether any kind of alteration to the system is in the works based on the community's feedback remains unknown.
