Friends is finally getting a 4K UHD boxset, with hours of bonus content, although it's a bit pricey. Hitting the airwaves all the way back in 1994 and airing for ten seasons, the trials and tribulations of six young men and women in New York turned Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer into enduring stars and has spawned waves of tie-in merchandise and retrospectives attached to anniversaries. However, one major item has been missing until now.

Amazon has a pre-order listing for Friends: The Complete Series [4K UHD]. Already a top seller, the boxset will be released on September 24, 2024. This marks the show's 30th anniversary.

Timed to the premiere of the very first episode of the iconic sitcom, the artwork above shows all of the six main cast members together. As of this writing, the boxset costs $249.99

Previous boxsets have featured an hour-long Friends documentary, which first aired on the Discovery Channel, an uncut version of Phoebe's "Smelly Cat" music video, LeBlanc's "Joey Joey" music video, commentaries from various episodes, blooper reels from multiple seasons, and a feature of the cast and crew reflecting on the show's final days. It is confirmed that the 4K will include blooper reels and the "I'll Be There For You" music video featuring the cast, per Amazon's description.

Other special features included in previous boxsets were retrospective documentaries, including one that focused on how the seminal sitcom came together. There were extended bloopers, originally kept for the cast and crew, in addition to a producer's cut of "The One Where Rachel Tells Ross," and cast interviews from talk show appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and The Ellen Degeneres Show.

At this time, it's unclear if the 4K boxset will include the extended version of the episodes which are featured on the DVDs but not the Blu-ray releases. The HBO Max reunion of the Friends cast from late 2021, is also not listed. That may change in the coming months. However, the boxset will likely be a big holiday and end-of-the-year gift for those who enjoyed the series. Though the entire series has long been available to own, the enhanced quality provided by 4K could make this a more appealing purchase for dedicated fans.
