Owning Manhattan is a brand-new Netflix series starring Million Dollar Listing New York’s Ryan Serhant, providing an inside look at the elite world of New York City real estate. Along with the additions of Buying Beverly Hills, Buying London, Selling The OC, and Selling Sunset, the new series joins a fleet of Netflix docuseries-style shows about the world of high-end real estate. Ryan, who was a part of Bravo’s Million Dollar Listing New York for the entire nine seasons it was on the air, is one of New York’s top real estate moguls and has built a team around him.
With Owning Manhattan following Ryan’s real estate brokerage, SERHANT., the series will show off an entirely different style of real estate than other Netflix series have in the past. After working in real estate for the majority of his adult life, Ryan has been able to come into his own with the opening of his brokerage. Bringing together some of the world’s top real estate agents who understand the market and the desired clientele in New York City, Ryan’s brokerage is an incredible undertaking. After years of teasing the fact that he’d be taking on a new reality TV project, Ryan was able to announce Owning Manhattan in May 2024. Ryan, who spent the majority of his time on Million Dollar Listing New York selling real estate with his longtime partner Fredrik Eklund, broke away from the traditional market during the COVID-19 pandemic. Though the pair still have a strong relationship, after Million Dollar Listing New York ended in 2021, Ryan was looking for another venture. He started his brokerage during the pandemic, and the Owning Manhattan cameras came in to document the progress.
The filming for Owning Manhattan took place in 2022 and 2023, as Ryan was still getting his footing with the rest of the agents at SERHANT. The New York real estate market has been difficult, and judging by the caliber of listing shown in the Owning Manhattan trailer, the agents are working hard to make sure that they can sell as much as possible. The series, which hopes to be huge for Netflix after the success of other real estate brokerage docuseries-style shows, will be debuting in June 2024. Ryan has already been hyping the show on his personal Instagram.
The first season of Owning Manhattan has been in the works for years and is something that Ryan has been talking about online for quite some time. Having known that he was working on a secret project for years, Ryan has done his best not to reveal that he was filming a Netflix series, but has been open about the fact that he was filming something. After what’s felt like years of secrecy, Ryan was finally able to announce Owning Manhattan was coming soon with an exciting trailer. Owning Manhattan season 1 will premiere on Netflix beginning on June 28.
Owning Manhattan Season 1 Trailer
Although Ryan will be part of the Owning Manhattan season 1 cast, he won’t be working on his own. The trailer for the series introduces Ryan’s company, SERHANT., with a quick introduction to Ryan himself. “After selling real estate for 12 years, I decided to start my own company,” Ryan explained in a voiceover. “And if you can’t sell, you can’t be here.” Over a montage of the agents featured on Owning Manhattan, one explained, “Welcome to New York City. We have the good, bad, ugly, crazy,” while another shared, “the real estate business in New York is cut throat.”
As the trailer continues, the Owning Manhattan cast continues to show off their skills as some of the most luxurious real estate in the city is shown off with sweeping shots. “I plan on being a top producing agent in New York City,” one of the agents shares, while another explains the “new agents are just different,” about the staff coming into SERHANT. One of the major challenges of the season appears to be what Ryan shares is “the most expensive apartment in the world” coming in at $250 million, challenging his staff to sell it for $10 million commission.
