During the May 30 PlayStation State of Play, a new gameplay trailer confirmed that Bloober Team's remake of Team Silent's beloved psychological horror title Silent Hill 2 would be released on October 8, 2024, on PS5 and Steam, finally narrowing down the once-vague 2024 release window and arriving just in time for Halloween. A further, uninterrupted gameplay sequence from the game was then shown at the Silent Hill Transmission showcase that followed Sony's stream.

The Silent Hill Transmission addressed several Silent Hill projects, such as the upcoming movie Return to Silent Hill, which will also follow the plot of Silent Hill 2 with Jeremy Irvine and Hannah Emily Anderson bringing James Sunderland and his beloved Mary - as well as her mysterious doppelganger, Maria - to life with director Christophe Gans at the helm. It also followed up on the State of Play's release date reveal by explaining the different versions of the Silent Hill 2 remake and what players could get if they pre-ordered before October 8.

All Silent Hill 2 Pre-Orders Include At Least One Mask Cosmetic

While Silent Hill 2's standard edition may only come with the base game, there is a perk for those who pre-order the game. All players who purchase the game before October 8 can get a Mira the Dog mask in a fun nod to one of the more bizarre endings of the original game that will hopefully be adapted to the remake. Those who get the title on PlayStation 5 can also get an additional exclusive Robbie the Rabbit mask to better resemble the mascot of Lakeside Amusement Park.

These pre-order bonuses are also available for those who purchase the Deluxe Edition of the Silent Hill 2 remake - which also comes with additional digital content - before October 8. The Deluxe Edition of the game includes a digital artbook and digital soundtrack, plus a further mask made out of a pizza box that resembles the iconic monster Pyramid Head.

Those who pre-order Silent Hill 2's Deluxe Edition will also be granted 48-hour early access to the game, something that's become fairly common practice with pre-orders in recent years. This is usually less common with single-player titles such as Silent Hill 2, however, and aside from notable examples such as Starfield, this practice seems to occur with multiplayer titles to give competitive players time to get an advantage over those who may be picking up a game at launch.

Considering how beloved the original 2003 Silent Hill 2 game was and how more recent entries in the series, such as Silent Hill: Ascension and Silent Hill: The Short Message, have not been well received, there are likely several Silent Hill fans who are keen to dive back into one of the series' more classic stories on modern devices as soon as possible and will welcome the early access.
