Xbox Game Pass Leak Leads To Confusion Over One Highly-Acclaimed RPG For June 2024

Summary A leak earlier in the week suggested Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance may be coming to Xbox Game Pass in June.

Atlus has a history of releasing its games on Game Pass, adding credibility to the rumors about SMT 5: Vengeance's release.

Vengeance promises a modernized experience with accessible gameplay, new demons, and an expanded world for RPG fans.

Earlier in the week, Xbox Game Pass was reportedly about to gain one of the biggest RPGs of 2024 and fans were keeping their fingers crossed that the rumors would turn out to be accurate. At the time of writing, June is looking to be an oddly dry month for Microsoft's subscription service, given that it has yet to announce any major releases aside from the three additions it revealed in May. If the latest rumors regarding the service's lineup prove accurate, then Game Pass is about to gain an incredible title that should keep users satisfied for a while.

Per Wario64 on X (formerly Twitter), a recent official video posted and quickly removed from Instagram seemingly confirms that Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance will be available for all Xbox Game Pass subscribers in June.

However, developer Atlus has since denied SMT 5: Vengeance will come to Game Pass right now. The developer, in an Instagram Reel (via Wario64) stated it was a template mistake on its part. Still, the fact that the video, which was likely an advertisement for the game, was removed from social media certainly lends credence that the RPG will be coming to the service at some point, even if it's not a Day One release that lines up with Vengeance's launch day of June 15.

SMT 5 Is Back With A Vengeance

This Version Is Bigger And Better Than Ever

Despite the denial, another point that lends further credibility to the rumors is that Atlus already has several games available through Game Pass, including Persona 5 Tactica, and Persona 3 Reload. The likelihood that SMT 5: Vengeance appears on Game Pass eventually still seems high. The massive RPG was originally released as a Nintendo Switch exclusive in 2021 and the updated and improved Vengeance aims to provide fans with the most complete experience possible.

SMT 5: Vengeance is the latest chapter in the storied RPG franchise, and while it gives some modern twists to the series' established formula of capturing and training demons, it'll still be familiar to veterans. Atlus has assured players that Vengeance includes more accessible gameplay, an improved battle system, new demons, and an even more expansive world alongside an additional story to further flesh out the narrative. This edition also marks the first time SMT V has been available on platforms other than the Nintendo Switch,

Even if SMT 5: Vengeance doesn't appear, Xbox Game Pass is offering subscribers a couple of other confirmed titles in June. These include Still Wakes The Deep, a haunting horror experience set on an oil rig, and Rolling Hills: Make Sushi, Make Friends, a wholesome restaurant management title. More games will likely be confirmed in the coming days.
