Cut Pokémon TCG: Twilight Masquerade Cards Hint At Secret Unannounced Set
Summary Cut cards from Twilight Masquerade hint at a future set centered on the Loyal Three, likely in a Special Expansion.
The next English set after Twilight Masquerade may include the omitted Illustration Rares of the Loyal Three.
A potential upcoming Special Expansion may focus on Kitakami's villainous Pokémon.
A group of cards that have been notably cut from the Pokémon Trading Card Game’s upcoming Twilight Masquerade expansion seem to hint towards a future set that has yet to be officially announced. When it releases, the Twilight Masquerade set will introduce new cards inspired by the people and Pokémon of Kitakami, the setting of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s Teal Mask DLC. However, it appears that not every anticipated new Pokémon TCG card will make its debut in this set, a fact that has, in turn, fueled speculation over future developments in the game.
It is important to note that cards of English Pokémon TCG sets are not, technically, the original versions; instead, each English set uses cards pulled from similarly recently-released Japanese sets. For example, Twilight Masquerade will use cards originally featured in the Japanese Pokémon TCG’s Mask of Change set, as well as those of the similar Crimson Haze set. By paying attention to newly-released Japanese sets, it becomes easy to see what cards will soon be arriving in the Western version. With recent revelations regarding the full set list for Twilight Masquerade, the implications for this established pattern are especially notable.

A Suspicious Exclusion From The English Set

The popular Pokémon fansite PokéBeach was recently able to confirm the full set list for Twilight Masquerade, with an intriguing trio of cards from its Japanese counterparts being cut. Despite all other cards from both Mask of Change and Crimson Haze being translated, it seems that the former’s Illustration Rare cards depicting Kitakami’s Loyal Three have been removed. Each of these cards for Munkidori, Fezandipiti, and Okidogi features stunning artwork, making their exclusion from Western release very notable. However, although they are not part of Twilight Masquerade, these Loyal Three cards may still soon come to the Pokémon TCG.
Previously, PokéBeach also revealed the existence of another Pokémon TCG set due to be released after Twilight Masquerade (which releases on May 24). Although information is currently very sparse on this new set, it is believed to be due for release on August 2nd, and will be a Special Expansion similar to the previous 151 and Paldean Fates sets for the Scarlet and Violet era of the TCG. Given that it will be the next release following Twilight Masquerade, this Special Expansion is also perfectly positioned to include the three cards cut from the next English set.
Special Expansion sets of the Pokémon TCG can be easily distinguished from Main Series Expansions by the fact that the former’s cards are distributed only through products such as Elite Trainer Boxes or Blister Packs; individual booster packs cannot be bought separately.
Although not a "main" expansion, it is far from impossible for this summer set for the Pokémon Trading Card Game to include cards that are brand new to English-speaking players. After all, 151 was a celebration of the original Kantonian Pokémon of Pokémon Red and Blue, whilst Paldean Fates dazzled people with its Shiny designs. Moreover, as these cut cards are clearly not randomly selected given how they appear as a group, it makes perfect sense for them to have been omitted from Twilight Masquerade for a specific purpose.

A New Pokémon TCG Special Expansion May Focus On Kitakami’s Villainous Pokémon
Night Wanderer Launches June 7 In Japan
The fact that these cut cards are all Illustration Rares of the Loyal Three suggests that they may become the highlights of an expansion directly focused on the group of less-than-honorable Legendaries. In fact, just such a set is due to arrive in Japan; Night Wanderer will launch on June 7, and is already known to feature the Loyal Three as Pokémon ex cards. Although other details are uncertain, such a set could also introduce Pecharaunt to the TCG, which would be thematically appropriate given the Subjugation Pokémon’s relationship with the Loyal Three.
If the next English Special Expansion does use the cards of Night Wanderer, it would also pair nicely with the theme of Twilight Masquerade. In addition to introducing the setting of Kitakami to the Pokémon TCG, Twilight Masquerade also features Ogerpon as one of its principal Pokémon. Naturally, a follow-up revolving around the Mask Pokémon’s old enemies would be a perfect complement to this. Moreover, this would keep the TCG’s adaptation of Kitakami and The Teal Mask separate from future cards based on the people and Pokémon encountered in The Indigo Disk.
Although a Pokémon Trading Card Game set centered around the Loyal Three has not been officially announced, there are plenty of signs pointing to it existing. Between the exclusion of the Loyal Three from Twilight Masquerade and the upcoming Japanese release of Night Wanderer, the future release of a Special Expansion dedicated to these Legendaries seems probable. As such, although it may initially seem as if English-speaking fans are missing out on the Illustration Rares of Munkidori, Fezandipiti and Okidogi, it is very likely that these beautiful cards will not remain out of reach forever.
