Hugh Grant's New Netflix Movie Creates An Unexpected Career Trend After Last Year's $623 Million Box Office Hit
Summary Hugh Grant stars in two back-to-back films about sweet treats, from Wonka's chocolate world to Unfrosted's Pop-Tarts rivalry.

Unfrosted serves as a delightful bridge for fans to enjoy before Grant's horror endeavor.
A new Netflix movie continues a delightfully unexpected trend for Hugh Grant after he featured in last year's $623 million box office hit Wonka. The Wonka movie faced controversy about casting Grant as one of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory's titular Oompa Loompas, with the Love Actually and About a Boy actor even openly admitting to feeling uncomfortable filming the role. Yet, while his part in Wonka may be what he considers a career low, the musical fantasy comedy still became a remarkable crowd-puller and a hugely lucrative movie.
With a talented Wonka cast to bring the origin story of Willy Wonka to life and saccharine musical numbers to match the whimsical candy-filled sets, all of which audiences flocked in to see, the 2023 film was able to paper over the concerns about Wonka casting Grant over actors in the industry with dwarfism. Not to mention, director Paul King doubled down on the Wonka controversy and defended his production's final casting decision. Thankfully, Grant's new movie continues an exciting trend that doesn't come attached to the strings of the Wonka controversy but is still just as sweet.

Hugh Grant's First Movie After Wonka Is Also About Developing Treats Primarily For Children
Hugh Grant Plays Thurl Ravenscroft In New Movie About Pop-Tarts

Right off the back of Wonka, Grant appears in another film about sweet treats geared toward children - but that adults very much indulge in, too. While just recently acting in Wonka's wondrous world of chocolate, Grant is now available to watch in the role of Unfrosted's Thurl Ravenscroft to help tell the story about Kellog's revolutionary breakfast pastry, the Pop-Tart. Big-name entertainer Jerry Seinfeld directed the Unfrosted comedy film, which is a loose interpretation of the creation of Pop-Tarts toaster pastries and its rivalry with packaged goods food manufacturer Post.

Grant joined another star-studded cast in Unfrosted, with celebrities such as Seinfeld, Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan, and Amy Schumer all joining in the mix. As Unfrosted is based on a real-life story, some of the cast hinges on real-life people, including Grant, whose character is a fictionalized version of the voice actor behind Kellog's Frosted Flakes mascot, Tony the Tiger. Just as in Wonka, the role is suited to Grant's dry, witty comedic flare, making Unfrosted a great follow-up or replacement movie for fans of the actor to enjoy.

Hugh Grant Is Set To Star In The Upcoming Horror Heretic

Unfrosted may also be a good movie for fans of Grant's funny side because, soon, the actor will take a deep dive into a wholly different genre. Grant's next film will find him in a much darker story, as he is starring in the A24 horror thriller Heretic. Much about the upcoming movie has been kept under wraps, though audiences can glean a lot from its available details, including who its cast and directors are.

Heretic has not confirmed a release date yet.
Heretic is coming from the minds of writer/director Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, who've brought horrors to the masses before, like A Quiet Place, Haunt, and The Bogeyman, so it's bound to be full of frights and great jump scares. Also on the project is Yellowjackets' Sophie Thatcher, who will be a great supporting co-star for Grant, considering he doesn't frequent the genre that often. Grant isn't returning to more lighthearted comedy, like Wonka, until 2025's Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, and as a result, Unfrosted is worth the watch for fans.
