Sisters Fight Sometimes

During the first three seasons of 1000-lb Sisters, Tammy's weight-loss journey was a string of failures. Every time Tammy stepped on a scale, her doctors were disappointed. Every expectation they laid out for her, she couldn't meet. Though she weighed 680 pounds when the show premiered, Tammy went to around 720 pounds, which was her heaviest. The heavier she weighed, the less mobile she was, and the more help she needed. The burden of her care fell on the rest of the Slaton family, primarily her siblings.
Though all four of her siblings chipped in, the brunt of the responsibility fell on Amy and Michael Halterman, Amy's husband.
This created a lot of resentment within the family. In a clip from 1000-lb Sisters season 3 that TLC posted on YouTube, Tammy gets into a big, blow-up fight with her sister, Amanda Halterman. The scene takes place at a public restaurant during a Slaton family vacation, with the Slaton siblings seated around a dining table together. The fight gets loud and profane, with the women threatening to fight each other. Since Tammy was wheelchair-bound and on an oxygen tank at the time, the threat was an idle one, but the rage was real.

Michael may have filed for divorce, but Amy wanted out of the marriage too. The 1000-lb Sisters star had long complained about Michael not doing enough for the family. She didn't feel he was working enough to provide for the family financially, nor did she think he was doing enough to help with the kids, or around the house. The pressure became too much for Amy, who couldn't take it anymore. This was shocking in contrast to the first few years of their relationship when they seemed happy together.
"I just want to be happy. I just want the divorce."
