A Frustrating Starfield Mechanic Gets Fixed In Time For Ship Decorations
Summary Manage your inventory in Starfield with ease with the "Distinct Misc Names" mod by frogs345, which adds 200 unique names to the game.
Remove the confusion of repeating names and inconsistent items in Starfield's miscellaneous items with this helpful new mod.
As Bethesda works on updates for Starfield, the inventory system may see improvements to make navigating the game smoother for players.
It's no secret that Starfield is littered with junk for players to pick up and horde if they so desire but a new mod has now made collecting everything significantly less annoying. Bethesda's RPG has a reputation for including all kinds of miscellaneous props to make their worlds feel more alive and authentic and the developer's most recent game did this better than any of its previous titles. Given the amount of useless objects strewn about Starfield, the game's inventory system isn't helpful when it comes to organizing everything.
Fortunately, a new mod by Nexus Mods user frogs345 aims to make all those "misc" items significantly easier to sort through by providing each and every one a unique name. The appropriately titled "Distinct Misc Names" mod renames over 200 misc items with a new name meaning that players will now be able to sort through their collections alphabetically rather than simply trawling through every item until they stumble upon the one they want. While it may seem like a relatively small tweak, removing the confusion that's often associated with inventory management will be a blessing for Starfield players.

Hoarding In Starfield Has Never Been Easier
"Maybe I'll Need It Later..."
Writing in the mod's description, frogs345 notes that Starfield's classification of miscellaneous items was often bothersome because of certain special collectibles having the same name. In creating the mod, they wanted to remove all instances of repeating titles so that users trying to prioritize certain pick-ups can now do so with ease rather than trawling through the game's many menus. Frogs345 also went one step further by fixing some of the more inconsistent items by changing/replacing missing and incorrect words, weights, and values.
Looking through Starfield's files, it's clear that the game sports hundreds of items that it defaults to classifying as "misc," resulting in certain objects having repeated names. The majority of these finds don't serve a mechanical purpose and are instead usually used by players to decorate their spaceships. In terms of what makes the cut as a "misc" item, these can be anything from furniture pieces, kitchen appliances, bathroom supplies, games, toys, and even pieces of artwork.
While Bethesda has promised that it's working on some extensive updates for Starfield, the studio has yet to address whether it has any intentions to overhaul the game's menus. One of the more common criticisms leveled at the game upon launch was that navigating its UI and in particular the inventory, was an exercise in frustration. As the most recent patch includes reworked maps to make navigating the surface of a planet easier, one can only hope that the menus a streamlined to facilitate a smoother experience.
