What begins as a relaxing trip on a cruise turns into a deadly mystery that puts one iconic hero in danger, with only Harley able to get them out.

In Harley Quinn 2024 Annual #1 by Erica Henderson, Harley decides to take a vacation on a cruise and discovers that the magician hero Zatanna is performing onboard. However, Zatanna has created a body double to entertain the guests while Zatanna takes a well-deserved vacation.

Unfortunately, Zatanna's double is framed for murder by Bronze Tiger, acting as Guy Mandrake's assassin after Harley stole and sold off Mandrake's crypto fortune. After Harley and Zatanna find the murder weapon, Harley Quinn takes it upon herself to stab Zatanna's body double on camera, clearing the real Zatanna's name.

Harley Quinn Took the Fall to Exonerate Zatanna

Harley Quinn's journey has been one that's taken her all over the 'hero/villain' dynamic. When she first started out, she was more than happy to work as Joker's villainous sidekick. However, Harley also tried solo villainy, and later antiheroism in her time with the Suicide Squad. But in more recent years, Harley's tried to see if she has what it takes to be a hero and has even worked alongside notable ones like Power Girl, Wonder Woman, and even Batman. Recently, Harley returned to villainy to help villains commit crimes in a more mentally healthy manner.

It should be noted that Zatanna's double wasn't anything more than a magical extension of the real Zatanna. But Zatanna didn't tell anyone she'd created a body double to get some much-needed rest. Only Harley knew that the double was a fake, yet she still went on camera and willingly 'killed' the double to ensure Zatanna wouldn't be framed for murder. That kind of sacrifice demonstrates that Harley, for all of her faults, wants to help people. Sure, Harley made it look like she committed murder, but she also showed a trusted Justice League member who Harley really is.

Zatanna Should Back Harley Quinn for Justice League Membership

While there isn't currently a Justice League, it's going to reform one day. And when that day comes, Zatanna should consider this moment and sponsor Harley's membership. Sure, Harley can be a bit of a handful. But at her core, Harley Quinn is a good person who is willing to sacrifice her own safety, well-being, and criminal record to help others out of a tight spot. Maybe Harley Quinn has a little bit further to go before she can earn the rest of the Justice League's trust, but her sacrifice may have earned her Zatanna's backing.
