Spider-Man 2 Players Spot A Glaring Gameplay Omission

Summary Peter Parker is noticeable by his absence as an AI ally when playing as Miles Morales in Spider-Man 2.

Despite this, Miles and Peter do team up throughout the story in scripted sequences alternating between the two heroes.

The lack of Peter's presence in crimes as an AI ally could be due to story elements involving Miles feeling neglected by his mentor.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 players have noticed a glaring gameplay omission when exploring the game's open world. The latest in Insomniac Games' superhero series saw players assume control of both Peter Parker and Miles Morales' Spider-Men as they took on a variety of threats across New York, from Kraven's "Great Hunt" to the symbiotic foe, Venom and his plans to "Heal the world".

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 had several AI "allies" teaming up with Peter and Miles as they took on random crimes across the city, when fending off large groups of enemies such as The Flame cult or Kraven's hunters, and this serves to make the game world feel a bit more immersive, as these heroes would naturally cross paths on their heroic journeys. One Redditor, EamoM2oo4, did share a meme that revealed a seemingly glaring observation though, when playing as Miles, Peter doesn't appear as one of these AI combat allies.

Miles does appear and help out with random events when playing as Peter, however, which makes the whole situation far stranger. Peter does have a few rare moments where he swings alongside Miles as an AI ally, however, and these aren't entirely scripted, as he'll follow or change his movement style based on what players do.

When playing as Miles, he will only ever team up with Wraith or Harry (when he appears as a version of Agent Venom before Peter gets the symbiote). That's not to say that in the main campaign, players don't see Peter as an AI ally when playing as the younger hero, however. It's worth noting that Peter and Miles fight side-by-side against both Sandman and Venom, but these boss battles are largely scripted and, therefore, the game tells players which hero they'll be playing as at a certain point, bouncing between the two.

It's not clear why Peter doesn't show up to assist with crimes when exploring Marvel's Spider-Man 2's open world, and does initially seem like a bit of an oversight. It could be due to the fact that in Miles' story, he does express that he feels his mentor and friend is constantly blowing him off to do stuff with Harry, or as a result of the symbiote, so seeing Peter constantly swinging in to help constantly would contradict this. This conflict is largely resolved by the end of the story once Peter becomes freed of the symbiote, so it's surprising that he doesn't swing in to help Miles more in the third act of the game when taking on symbiote nests. If anything, having Peter being extremely present before the symbiote corrupted him would be a subtle difference that could have further enhanced that story element by further showing how he changed as a mentor.

With Peter going on a hiatus after Marvel's Spider-Man 2's ending, it makes some sense for Miles to largely be on his own in combat, and with the teases set up in the game's post-credits scene, it's clear that Miles will have more help from another spider-hero in the next game. The fact that Peter is still immediately playable after the credits roll does contradict the story anyway, so it wouldn't be too out of place to have him swing by and help Miles more often.
