Honkai Star Rail 2.3 Leaks: Best Team Comp Is Getting A Major Buff

Honkai Star Rail 2.3 Leaks: Best Team Comp Is Getting A Major Buff

Summary New Honkai: Star Rail 2.3 leaks suggest a focus on follow-up attacks, with new sets enhancing the mechanic.

Recent releases have drawn attention to the combat mechanic and formed one of the strongest team comps.

The release of Jade in Honkai: Star Rail 2.3 also hints at an investment in follow-up attacks with her Path.

If new Honkai: Star Rail 2.3 Leaks are to be believed, it seems like the game’s best team comp is getting another buff as HoYoverse doubles down on one gameplay mechanic. Currently, the turn-based RPG is in the early stages of Version 2.2, an anticipated patch that brings forth the final missions in the main Penacony storyline – there will likely be more content related to the Planet of Festivities in the future, though the central questline is complete. The release of Robin and Boothill in Honkai: Star Rail 2.2 is also noteworthy, as both are deemed as strong characters.

Robin is a support unit that boost her allies’ overall damage output potential, while Boothill is a single-target DPS capable of dealing an immense amount of damage. Boothill is a traditional DPS, much like other characters that follow the Path of the Hunt. Robin is also a fairly universal support unit, capable of being inserted into several types of team comps. However, Robin excels when inserted into teams focused on follow-up attacks and, according to new leaks, that specific combat mechanic is bound to receive another round of buffs with the release of Honkai: Star Rail’s Version 2.3 in June.

Follow-Up Attacks In Honkai: Star Rail 2.3 May Get Boosted

Combat Mechanic Is Getting Special Treatment

New information obtained by Firefly Lover and Dim, shared in a post tagged as “Reliable” on Reddit, showcases two new sets of Relics and Planar Ornaments that are rumored to be added with Version 2.3. One Relic set and one Ornament set focuses on benefits provided through the Break Effect stat, while the other two boost follow-up attacks – and therein lies a hint at HoYoverse’s plans. Follow-up attacks have been receiving extra attention as of late and the rumored addition of two new sets for the mechanic in Honkai: Star Rail 2.3 hints at it becoming ever more present.

Follow-Up Attacks Have Been In The Spotlight In Honkai: Star Rail

New Characters & Reruns Hint At An Incentive Toward The Mechanic

Close

Although present since the release of the game – and even before, when considering the title went through several beta sessions prior to that – follow-up attacks have been more present as of late, and it seems like there is even an incentive toward using this mechanic in endgame challenges. One of the first and most notable details is Dr. Ratio’s free giveaway up until Version 2.1. While he deals damage through his regular abilities, a large bulk of damage comes from his follow-up attacks. Dr. Ratio in Honkai: Star Rail is considered one of the game’s finest DPS.

In addition to that, Version 2.1 recently introduced Aventurine, who instantly became one of the most reliable shielders alongside Fu Xuan. While the character is well-known for how well he operates as a tank, Aventurine also executes follow-up attacks and, because of how he is built, these attacks can do a lot of damage to opponents. Despite the character’s focus on protection, Aventurine’s build in Honkai: Star Rail also permits him to operate as a consistent and reliable source of damage who can substantially aid the team’s DPS and sub-DPS units, even if his damage does not match his allies’.

“It does seem like HoYoverse is heavily investing in follow-up attacks as the current big gameplay mechanic, much like HP-loss was in the meta a few patches ago.”

Now, in Version 2.2, HoYoverse is reinforcing the mechanic once again. As was previously mentioned, Robin is indeed a universal support unit that fits into several team comps. Her bonus to follow-up attacks is not to be reckoned with, however, and when inserted into a party focused on this mechanic, she can significantly improve the damage dealt to enemies. Additionally, the patch is also rerunning Topaz & Numby, a 5-star Hunt unit that is considered one of the strongest follow-up attack characters in the game. When paired with Dr. Ratio and Aventurine, players can trigger continuous instances of follow-up attacks.

The follow-up attacks used by Topaz in Honkai: Star Rail can trigger Dr. Ratio’s follow-up abilities, for instance, which can then initiate another round of follow-up attacks.

This, of course, is not considering older follow-up specialists like Jing Yuan, Himeko, and Herta, though they have not been in the limelight lately. This new team comp structure, made possible by making Dr. Ratio the main DPS, Topaz the supporting sub-DPS, Aventurine the damage mitigator, and Robin the follow-up support unit, can utterly charge through endgame activities, especially when all characters are well-built. Of course, this will be further incentivized with the leaked Relics and Ornaments in Honkai: Star Rail 2.3. Even with so much content, this may not be the end of HoYoverse’s investment in follow-up attacks.

The new Relic could serve Jing Yuan, though it is arguable that the Ashblazing Grand Duke set is better for how he plays, especially considering he is a bit slower than other follow-up characters.

Jade’s Release In Honkai: Star Rail 2.3 Sustains Investment In Follow-Up Attacks

5-Star Character Is Confirmed To Follow The Path Of The Erudition

While the recent new additions and the rumored addition of Relics and Ornaments dedicated to follow-up attacks in Version 2.3 seem like a concrete formula, there may be even more investment into the combat mechanic with the arrival of Jade. The character is confirmed to be a 5-star Quantum unit who follows the Path of the Erudition. This Path is traditionally known for targeting multiple opponents at once and, commonly using follow-up attacks to deal damage. Available characters in Honkai: Star Rail that follow the Path of the Erudition include Jing Yuan and Himeko, for instance.

With Jade’s confirmed Path, it is natural to speculate she will also deal follow-up attacks. This is further sustained by Jade’s gameplay kit, obtained by the leaker known as Dim and shared in a post tagged as “Reliable” on Reddit. According to the leak, Jade does use this combat mechanic and it seems to play a central role in her operation as a DPS or a sub-DPS. Jade is rumored to deal damage herself and also buff allies in Honkai: Star Rail – and when they hit opponents, she gains stacks that eventually trigger her follow-up attacks.

Related Honkai Star Rail 2.3 Leaks: Firefly May Be The First Character Of Her Type New leaks about Firefly in Honkai: Star Rail 2.3 are hinting at what may be a game-changing addition to the turn-based RPG's combat system.

For now, these leaks should be taken with a grain of salt, as they may be inaccurate or subject to change ahead of the official release, in spite of how reliable they may currently seem. Nevertheless, it does seem like HoYoverse is heavily investing in follow-up attacks as the current big gameplay mechanic, much like HP-loss was in the meta a few patches ago. While it is unlikely to remain in the limelight forever, it should establish itself as a consistent mechanic in Honkai: Star Rail for years to come.
