A memorable sequence in Melissa McCarthy’s new Netflix movie, Unfrosted, makes up for an actor pairing that never happened in her hit comedy film from 2011. The cast and characters of Netflix’s Unfrosted movie include numerous big-name comedians and celebrities, including several actors who have already appeared together in various projects beforehand. This happens to be the case for Melissa McCarthy, whose role as Stan in Unfrosted shares a long-awaited reunion for her 2011 breakout movie after Gilmore Girls.
In Jerry Seinfeld’s 2024 film Unfrosted, McCarthy portrays Donna Stankowski, a fictional character who begins the movie as a NASA scientist before joining the Kellogg’s team tasked with developing what becomes the Pop-Tart. As one of the main characters, McCarthy shares the screen with a wide variety of actors recruited for cameos in Unfrosted, including one of the most viral appearances in the film. While they only interact briefly, Melissa McCarthy’s Unfrosted scene with Jon Hamm serves as a stealth reunion for their previous acclaimed movie together.

Before Unfrosted, Melissa McCarthy and Jon Hamm both had memorable roles in the 2011 comedy movie Bridesmaids. McCarthy starred as Megan, one of the titular bridesmaids and Lillian’s future sister-in-law, while Hamm appeared in a few scenes as Ted, a guy whom Annie had been seeing before Officer Nathan Rhodes. Though the two give standout comedic performances, Melissa McCarthy and Jon Hamm shockingly never shared a scene in Bridesmaids, with the latter primarily acting opposite Kristen Wiig in the film.

As such, Unfrosted finally makes up for the lack of a McCarthy and Hamm Bridesmaids scene, as the two actors share the screen during one of the movie’s biggest moments. Jon Hamm reprises his Mad Men role as Don Draper in Unfrosted, with his ‘60s-era character pitching an advertising campaign for Kellogg’s. When Don and his pitch are dismissed, he hangs around to talk to Melissa McCarthy’s Stan on the way out, and the two flirt before the unexpected scene comes to an end. With over a decade having passed since Bridesmaids, the divisive Unfrosted scene provided a long-awaited on-screen reunion for Hamm and McCarthy.

As their roles in Unfrosted highlight, Hamm and McCarthy have continued to utilize their comedic talents in the years since their first movie collaboration. However, the two still haven’t had substantial screen time together in a comedy movie like Bridesmaids, with Unfrosted proving that this needs to change in the future. The brief scene they shared in Unfrosted emphasized the comedic chemistry the two could have in a movie with more intertwined roles, which could also make up for the missed opportunity of pairing them for some scenes in Bridesmaids.
