10 Best Stowaways in Another Crab's Treasure

10 Best Stowaways in Another Crab's Treasure

Stowaways are tiny items and companions you can add to your shell in Another Crab's Treasure. Each of these Stowaways has special perks to help you on your adventure, but many come with side effects. The best Stowaways don't just boost one stat, but provide a special advantage to the game's overall mechanics.

There are multiple variations of each Stowaway, marked by plus signs. For example, there is the basic Fruit Sticker, then Fruit Sticker + and Fruit Sticker ++. No matter what the Stowaway does, it is always better to equip the higher level Stowaway if you can. The one issue that comes with that, however, is that higher level Stowaways take up more room, requiring some strategy. As such, Stowaway level is not considered when looking at just how good a given Stowaway is.

10 Sea Slug

Base Rating: 3 Stars

This pretty Sea Slug is a special Stowaway that increases the effectiveness of dodge rolls. You'll need at least 35 Attack to use this Stowaway, but it makes it easier to dodge incoming attacks. If you struggle to avoid getting hit, the Sea Slug may be a good Stowaway to equip. However, due to its high level and requirements, you likely won't be equipping this Stowaway until later on in Another Crab's Treasure.

The Sea Slug has a 3-star rating. The Stowaways you can equip depend on how many stars they are all worth. You start with a capacity of 4 Stars but can increase it. For example, if you have a maximum of 8 stars and you equip the Sea Slug, you have 5 stars left to spend on Stowaways. The star rating of an individual Stowaway increases by one per level, so where Sea Slug has 3 stars, Sea Slug ++ has 5 stars.

9 Sea Cucumber

Base Rating: 6 Stars

The Sea Cucumber stands out among regular stat-altering Stowaways in Another Crab's Treasure due to its wide reach. Rather than just affecting one stat positively and/or lowering another stat, the Sea Cucumber provides a small boost to four of the five stats in the game; namely Vitality, Resistance, Attack, and Umami.

Since Vitality connects well with the missing stat in this list, Defense, the Sea Cucumber acts as an all-around strong boost to Kril's powers. The five main stats are explained below.

Another Crab's Treasure takes a page from its developer Aggro Crab's previous game, Going Under, in that enemy health is not naturally available to the player. This can make it hard to prioritize certain enemies or know how much longer it will take to put them down. Just like Going Under, however, Kril can equip a Stowaway that gives him this ability. With the Contact Lens, you'll be able to see every enemy's health and better pick your battles.

The Contact Lens is largely a utility Stowaway meant for players having a hard time managing combat. If you're able to take down enemies with ease, you probably don't need the Contact Lens equipped. However, this Stowaway can make the game easier for a few players, making it quite valuable.

7 Googly Eye

Base Rating: 2 Stars

Affliction Buildup is a major threat to Kril on his adventure. Maintaining a high Resistance is the best defense against pollution and mental attacks, but if you find yourself in need of support, the Googly Eye Stowaway may be perfect for you. With the Googly Eye equipped, you'll get less Affliction Buildup from mental attacks.

Your ability to equip a Googly Eye Stowaway at any level is dependent on your Vitality. In its basic form, you'll need at least 20 Vitality. It's best to save this Stowaway for combat scenarios where you may encounter mental attacks, otherwise, you'll be wasting space. When the time comes, however, the Googly Eye may be the only thing that keeps you alive.

6 Lumpsucker

Base Rating: 3 Stars

You'll be trekking through a lot of pollution in Another Crab's Treasure. Pollution is another source of Affliction Buildup you'll have to contend with, both in and out of combat. With the Lumpsucker, you can get some protection from Affliction Buildup caused by pollution. Like Googly Eye, you'll need 20 Vitality for the basic variation of this fishy Stowaway, but considering the prevalence of pollution, it's worth it.

It's better to have either Lumpsucker or Googly Eye equipped, and not both at once. While you may be heavily protected from Affliction Buildup, you'll be wasting Stowaway space. If you want general protection against Affliction Buildup, invest in Resistance.

5 Fruit Sticker

Base Rating: 3 Stars

Microplastics are the main currency in the game due to its strong pollution themes and another reason why Another Crab's Treasure could be one of the best video games about saving the environment. While it's easy to collect microplastics, you'll always want more, and that is where the Fruit Sticker comes in. Stick the Fruit Sticker on your shell and you'll get more microplastics. This will help you get better items, more Stowaways, and other useful tools and tricks from merchants.

This is a perfect Stowaway for the early phases of the game when you're short on microplastics. You can buy better, stronger Stowaways with more microplastics so one day you can happily put your Fruit Sticker in storage. Since this is a utility Stowaway, it's better to avoid pairing it with other utility Stowaways like the Contact Lens.

4 Sponge

Base Rating: 2 Stars

This puffy, bright yellow Sponge has a fun relationship with Umami. Attacking with the basic Sponge equipped gives you a 33% boost in Umami Regeneration, allowing you to use more of your magic. With the Sponge, you'll be able to cast your shell spells quicker as you fight off enemies.

In order to use the basic Sponge, you'll need at least 18 MSG. If you're struggling to get the Umami requirements, try equipping an Anemone alongside the Sponge. Anemone ++ gives you 6 MSG and 2 RES, so it should give you enough Umami to use the Sponge. Make sure not to equip the Salp with the Sponge as the two counteract each other.

3 Whelk

Base Rating: 2 Stars

The Whelk is an excellent Stowaway to pair with the Sponge. This small snail has its own relationship with Umami that is well suited to Shell Spell lovers. The Whelk in its basic form gives you 15% more Shell Spell damage (with Whelk ++ delivering +45%). This helps you make the most of your Umami and decimate the competition. The basic Whelk also has a small 2 RES requirement, making it easy to obtain (especially with Anemone ++).

Stowaway Effect Whelk +15% Shell Spell damage Whelk + +30% Shell Spell damage Whelk ++ +45% Shell Spell damage

A good combination of Stowaways for an Umami build would be a Whelk, a Sponge, and an Anemone. If you're unsure which version to pick, try Whelk ++ for an extra punch.

2 Used Bandage

Base Rating: 2 Stars

Soulslike games hinge on your ability to stay alive, so like any good action-adventure game, Another Crab's Treasure makes sure you can heal and heal well. The bloody, wrinkled Used Bandage requires at least 4 RES to use, but in its base form gives Kril an extra 15% Healing Effectiveness.

One of the main ways you heal in Another Crab's Treasure is through eating Heartkelp Pods. You can combine the Used Bandage with the Phytoplankton Stowaway for good synergy, as Phytoplankton restores Umami when you eat a Heartkelp Pod. With this combo, you'll get both extra Health and extra Umami.

Stowaway Effect Used Bandage +15% Healing Effectiveness Used Bandage + +30% Healing Effectiveness Used Bandage ++ +45% Healing Effectiveness

1 Another Crab

Base Rating: 1 Star

Two crabs are better than one with this Stowaway. A single-use revival item is a popular choice for soulslike or roguelike games, such as the Astronaut Artifact in Returnal. Here, Kril uses the help of another, smaller crab to bring him back to life following death. However, once Another Crab activates, it will vanish and cannot save you again.

The best time to use Another Crab is during boss battles and complex situations where you find yourself constantly dying. It shouldn't be equipped willy-nilly due to its importance. However, when you need it, Another Crab will give you a second chance, making it one of the best Stowaways in Another Crab's Treasure.
