In a collaborative post with Dr. Eric Smith, Tammy recently shared a video about the mental health surrounding weight loss, sharing that she’s felt some extreme depression in the past. She, along with several other patients of Dr. Smith, shared their stories surrounding both their own struggles with obesity and their solution in bariatric surgery. Tammy, who’s shown in an older clip from 1000-lb Sisters before her weight loss surgery, shared that her life has been a struggle with obesity, and was shown after her life-changing weight loss surgery later in the video, making it clear that she’s bettered herself.

While Tammy and the rest of the video’s participants shared their own reasons why bariatric surgery has changed their lives, there was even more to discuss from the caption of the video. Dr. Smith explained that with May being mental health awareness month, it was a good time to look into the impacts of obesity on the mental health of those who struggle with it. According to the post, “individuals living with obesity face a 30-70% higher risk of developing a mental illness.” While that’s a large range, many of the individuals featured in the video proved the metric true.

Tammy likely had to wear a lot of clothes that weren’t of interest to her, or weren’t something she’d want to wear in her day-to-day life. Though she didn’t want to wear certain things, they may have been the only outfits available for her at the time.

Seeing Tammy in form-fitting clothing proves that she’s gotten to a point where she’s able to show off her body in a way that makes her feel good about herself. In the past, Tammy would hide her body in baggy outfits, doing her best to make sure she fit in with the rest of the world, who she knew would be judging her anyway.
