Avengers Officially Debuts New Roster, Including Epic New Costume for an MCU Hero

Summary Marvel deity Hercules debuts a new costume in Avengers #14, one that appears designed to protect him from vampires during the bloody battles ahead, as he joins Earth's Mightiest Heroes in the midst of the Blood Hunt crossover event.

Marvel Comics has debuted an all-new Avengers lineup, as the world's heroes battle vampires in Blood Hunt – and for one MCU character, the crossover event includes a new look. It appears that the hero Hercules will be taking a prominent spot, and debuting a new costume, in the Avengers Blood Hunt tie-in issue.

Avengers (2023) #14 – by Jed MacKay, C.F. Villa, and Federico Blee – Captain America assembles another Avengers roster including, Quicksilver, Hazmat, Kate Bishop as Hawkeye, and Hercules. The preview for the issue shows off Cap and the latter two Avengers in the midst of a massive vampire battle, reflecting on their own mortality.

Notably, Hercules has a fresh new look as he dashes into the fray and fights alongside his new teammates. While Hercules’ new costume may not show off as much skin as he usually does, that’s what makes it essential in his battle against vampires.

Though Marvel has occasionally covered the hunky hero up with various costumes and suits over the years, his most iconic and consistent look features some gladiator-style straps, sometimes a helmet, and a green-and-gold loincloth. Though Hercules’ long list of powers and abilities does contain invulnerability, it seems he does still have to worry about getting bitten during Blood Hunt. His new costume in Avengers #14 has more coverage on his body in vulnerable areas that the vampires could sink their teeth into, while still leaving some skin exposed either just for the reader’s enjoyment or to keep the character consistent.

The Marvel universe’s version of the Greek demigod made his official Silver Age debut in Journey Into Mystery Annual #1 – written by Stan Lee, with art by Jack Kirby, Vince Colletta, and Stan Goldberg. Pitting mythological gods against each other, Marvel’s Hercules was initially a rival of Thor. This crossed over into the character’s first appearance in the MCU, debuting in a Thor: Love and Thunder end credits scene, played by comedy actor and writer Brett Goldstein.

As the other main Avengers get caught up in the main Blood Hunt title, it’s nice to see heroes that are featured less prominently finally get the spotlight. In an all-out violent vampire war, the unique group of characters assembling in Avengers #14 will have to learn how to work together to battle these ultra-powerful monsters, as they try to take out all of humanity. With Hercules’ getting a new costume as he rejoins the Avengers, the Greek god should be able to fend off a vampire’s bite and resist being turned into an extremely overpowered villain for their side.
