Dead Island 2 Update Teases New Content, Raises Hopes For NG+

Summary Dead Island 2 celebrates 1 year since its launch with new updates and content from Dambuster Studios.

Fans are hopeful for a New Game Plus mode tease in upcoming game updates.

Dambuster is acknowledging community feedback and planning exciting new game updates soon.

To celebrate a year since the launch of Dead Island 2, Dambuster Studios has announced new content is in the works. After nine years of troubled development in which the title bounced between different developers, Dambuster Studios finally released Dead Island 2 in April 2023. The title was well-received, with plenty of gory zombie-slaying antics making for a fun romp across an apocalyptic Los Angeles, and its expansion pass brought two new story chapters, Haus, which revolved around a billionaire’s secret techno-death cult, and SoLA, which featured a zombified music festival.

Dead Island 2 launched on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC as an Epic Games Store exclusive in April 21, 2023, and finally came to Steam a year later on April 22, 2024.

In a post on the official Dead Island X account, Dambuster thanked fans for their support over the last year, reflecting on its nomination for "Best Action Game" at the 2023 Game Awards and "Best British Game" at the 2024 BAFTAs, as well as its impressive sales, in which over 7 million players have played the game.

The post also confirmed that the team at Dambuster is acknowledging the Dead Island community's feedback and will be sharing some "exciting and long-awaited new game updates" in the coming months.

Dead Island 2 Previously Had A Post-Campaign Exploration Mode

When discussing the post, which BackBoardFilms shared on Reddit, it's clear that the Dead Island community is hoping Dambuster will add a New Game Plus mode to Dead Island 2, with MightyEraser13 and alien_tickler suggesting the phrasing of "new game updates" could be teasing this popular mode. New Game Plus has become an increasingly common inclusion in story-based, single-player titles, letting players reexperience a campaign with all of the upgrades and weapons they'd accumulated from their original playthrough.

While Dead Island 2 does give players the option to take on "Hell-A" solo or as part of a group in online co-op, it is clear that players want to revisit the game's campaign after completing it with their unlocked cards and abilities intact. Currently, the game does have a post-campaign "exploration mode" that offers full fast travel and gives players a chance to complete everything beyond the main story missions, such as side-quests, Lost and Found missions, and unlocked cards while retaining their Slayer build, but those looking to replay the main story have to start a new game.

Currently, exactly what Dambuster has in store for Dead Island 2's future updates is completely speculative. However, with the studio giving a timeframe within the coming months, hopefully, it won't be long before a full announcement.
