Fallout 4 is littered with settlements for the Sole Survivor to both liberate and protect and while some of them can be rather challenging, one of the most disappointingly simple just became a whole lot more interesting. After joining forces with Preston Garvey and the Minutemen, players will be sent all over the Commonwealth to help people in need as they attempt to reform society. Sunshine Tidings Co-Op, a fairly large settlement that's been overrun by Feral Ghouls, is a little disappointing given the dullness of the encounter, but a new mod aims to fix that.

Posted to Nexus Mods by creator Bludwolf, the "Sunshine and Cannibalism - Stranger Commonwealth" makes the battle for Sunshine Tidings significantly more exciting by replacing the low-level enemies with two extremely powerful Ghouls that have a taste for human flesh. Described as a boss fight that will reward players with legendary items, the Ghouls spend their days luring travelers to stay at the co-op only to kill them and harvest their flesh. Aside from the unique weapons dropped by the foes, the mod also adds in two notes to provide players with some backstory for how Sunshine Tidings became so grisly.

Making The Commonwealth Stranger

Fallout Is All About Weird Vibes

The "Sunshine and Cannibalism" mod is part of a series of add-ons that forms the "Stranger Commonwealth" collection which aims to make the Boston Wasteland a little weirder to explore. The addition of two cannibal Ghouls is certainly a major improvement over the vanilla version of Sunshine Tidings, given that the fairly large settlement is protected some extremely weak Feral Ghouls and some random critters. Defeating these enemies and claiming the land for the Minutemen isn't exactly satisfying give how easy they are to overcome; this way, victory feels more earned.

The original version of the quest is also disappointing because Feral Ghouls just aren't that unique of an enemy as they can be found in nearly every location in the Commonwealth. Introducing two unique characters with specialized gear and some light backstory makes the battle for Sunshine Tidings Co-Op significantly more impactful and immersive for those players who truly want dig into the world of Fallout 4. If the Sole Survivor is going to do the Minutemen's dirty work, it might as well be an interesting journey.

While "Sunshine and Cannibalism" is the first entry in the "Stranger Commonwealth" series, Fallout 4 players should keep an eye open for more mods that continue the theme. As many players return to Bethesda's RPG following the success of the Prime Video series, it's likely that veterans may want to spice up the experience with some custom content to make the game a little more bizarre. In a world ravaged by radiation, it's best to always prepare for the weird.
